What makes this portion of the game so unforgettable is the effectiveness of its incorporation into this particular area. You kind of just stumble upon it dragging itself around. Sure, there are persistent wails and moans alerting you of its presence, but all of it feels very authentic and earned.
6 Doom 3
Bethesda and Id Software have taken more of a traditional, run-and-gun approach to Doom in its most recent installments, but Doom 3 offered a much different kind of terror that⛄ is reputable on its own. In the earlier hours of the game, Doom guy enters a dark room with its only light source comi🤡ng from massive glowing glass containers of imps.
These containers are attached to a conveyer belt of sorts, forcing the player to move fast and check every angle for spawning demons. This particular section was infinitely more effective before the BFG edition's player-attached flashlight mechanic was incorporated, considering now the player can switch on their flashlight at a🐠ny time and still fire their weapon. Exterminating our demons with the BFG edition however, is a discussion for a later date.
5 𒈔 Convenience Store

You play as a new employee of your town's local convenience store, but of course, things are not as they seem. The explo𓆉rable environment isn't too vast, offering only the main sections of the store, the single patron bathroom, the back area behinܫd the freezer and the outside portion by the rat-infested dumpsters at your disposal. Towards the tail end of the game, as you're completing your nightly responsibilities of restocking, cleaning and monitoring the security cameras, a ghostly apparition appears in the center of the aisle to scare the ever-living Bejesus out of you. It's VHS aesthetic and effective, low-budget scares put Convenience Store well above some of the other AAA titles.
4 💮 Alien Isolation ꦗ

Wooden puppets appea𓆏r throughout the game, hopping around the room when the player is not looking at them. Considering Sebastian's limp, he barely escapes death only to plummet down a gore-infested slope into a pool of blood. Th🍌is moment will surely have your heart racing, and serves as a near flawless introduction into the demented world of The Evil Within🅰.

It would be a disservice to talk about creepy hallways in video games and to NOT include the playable teaser that popularized them. P.T., or the ill-fated Silent Hills game, is essentially one, never-endin🌺g scary hallway. Every time the player reenters the time loop, these strange paranormal occurrences become all the more present the further you delve.
In the earlier passes through the main halls, you come face-to-face with Lisa, the demonic entity stalking you throughout. Her features are obscured in darkness, but her shape🎃 can clearly be identified. As you move closer, the light bursts and she disappears. Though not as instantly frightening as the final jump scare, this section flows so seamlessly and truly prepares the player for their experience moving forward.
