The terms "broken" and "overpowered" have become buzzwords in gaming, haven’t they? Players always like to make sure their feelings about defeats are made clear, but especially when they’ve been beaten by something they consider unfair. If you lose to something a lot, it’s a sa🐻fe bet that you’ll come to consider it overpowered.
In the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokémon universe, balance is all but an impossibility. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Some Pokémon are terrible, others are super strong, and that’s just the way things are. In some interesting cases, though, it’s more than just the Pokémon itself. It’s an Ability, an item, a move or some co🔯mbination of all these things that makes them truly broken.
Updated by Chris Littlechild, March 30, 2020: Game Freak does have a tendency to go a little overboard with certain Abilities or other traits, and they're often left just as they were. Mega Kangaskhan's Parental Bond immediately proved to be far too good, and it was some time before that was nerfed.
Some Pokémon are all but designed to be far too strong, while others only become so after a certain strategy comes to light. However the chips fall, they're still just far too good. Here are some more assets that can quickly make a Pokémon overpowered.
15 🅷Give It The Wonder Guard 💃Ability
There are some quirky Pokémon that are completely reliant on their own exclusive gimmick to survive. One that springs to mind immediately is Shedinja, the Bug- and Ghost-type that resuꦅlts from Nincada’s evolution.
As series fans know, this spooky little bug has only a single HP point, but it has a fantastic and completely unique Ability to make up for ༒that: Wonder Guard. This Ability makes it immune to all direct♐ attacks, except those it’s weak to. If you remember the days of hacked "Wondertomb," or Spiritomb (which had no weaknesses before Fairy was introduced) with Wonder Guard, you’ll understand just how strong this Ability could be in the wrong hands.
14 🧸 Give It A Focus Sash
For the inexperienced Pokémon player, a Focus Sash might not seem like a particularly useful item. Allowing a full HP critter to survive an attack that would otherwise sending it hurtling back into its Pokémon, surviving with just 1 HP? Isn’t that just delaying🥂 the inevitable by a turn?
Well, friends, it’s all about what that single turn will allow you to do. Shenanigans like Focus Sash Shell Smash can be utterly devastating. Heck, the Focus Sash even makes a level one Ratta𝓀ta (or the like) a huge threat, thanks to the F.E.A.R. strategy (Focus Sash, combined with Endeavor and Quick Attack. With the safety net of this item, a whole range of Pokémon can pull off so many different strategies they usually coul𒊎dn’t.
13 🌟 Set Up Screens For It
Generall✃y speaking, a lot of the most powerful Pokémon tend to be either super slow or super frail in return. You can’t have everything (unless you’re a mascot Legendary Pokémon, because none of the rules seem to apply to them). Various speed control strategies are used to help with the first problem, but when it comes to the s🅘econd, screens are the name of the game.
As you probably know, Reflect halves the damage the user’s team takes from physical mo𝓡ves, while Light Screen has the same effect on special moves. Aurora Veil does both, but can only be used in hail. Needlꦜess to say, this can make any foe seem overpowered in an instant, suddenly being twice as tanky.
12 Giv༺e It Downright Silly Stats
Before we get any further along this list, we’re going to mention the most obvious way to render a Pokémon overpowered, in case you thought we’d forgotten about the elephant in the room (thꦏe particularly attention-seeking one playing the ukulele while riding a unicycle): simply give it great stats.
As we’ve mentioned, mascot Legendary Pokémon tend to be designed to be silly, 📖but the likes of Aegislash were also taken a mite too far in that regard. In fact, its base 150 offenses/defenses were reduced to base 140 at the start of gen VIII, the first Pokémon ever to receive a base stat nerf.
11 ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ Set Up Its Preferred Weather
Speaking of super powerful Pokémon, some are at their terrifying, soul-claiming best under the influence of different weather conditions. Abilities such as Swift Swim instantly double their Speed, while the weather itself also boosts the power of their STAB moves (Water 𝔉in rain and Fire in sun, of course).
As such, the likes of Kingdra and Excadrill can easily outspeed and overpower their foes, particularly when supported by allies that can keep the weather on their side. This is exactly why Excadrill and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Tyranitar are such a deadly duo.
10 Give It Huge Pꦿower
Pokémon players often wonder why or status effꦐects like Burn, don’t have counterparts that hinder special attackers. A lot of this could come down to the fact that the game often seems to be quite heavily physically-oriented.
Some of the strongest physical attackers we’ve seen lately, such as Mega Mawile and Azumarill, don’t have particularly high Attack stats. It’s the Ability Huge Power (which doubles said stat) that makes them the monsters they are. If given to a♉ Pokémon that’s already very powerful, it could be ridiculous. Imagine what Huge Power Garchomp could do!
9 Give It An Absurd Pokédex Entry Or Two 🌊 🍌
As all franchise fans know, the Pokédex does go a little overboard at times. Hitmonchan can punch an impossible number of times a second, a boy with psychic powers ꦿsomehow woke up as a darn Kadabra one day… we’re probably not supposed to take these entries too seriously.
The thing is, though, some totally nondescript Pokémon really shine in the pages of the Pokédex. Did you remember that Magcargo existed? Did you realize it ever did? If you did, it’s only because of its infamous “Magcargo's body temperature is approximately 18,000 degrees F” entry from Pokémon Sapphire. Come on now, Game Freak, that’s just ridiculously overpowered, even for the strongest of Fir💜e-type critters and their moves.
8 🌜 Take Away Its Terꦺrible Ability
We’ve already seen some Abilities that could instantly make a Pokémon overpowered, but what if we take the opposite approach? There are certain Pokémon♊ who have fantastic stats, but are intentionally kept g😼rounded by an awful Ability. Slaking, for instance, is super strong and has good bulk too. It would be overpowered if it hadn’t been given the Ability Truant (which means it can’t move every other turn).
The same is true of its fellow Normal-type Regigigas, which has the infamous Slow Start Ability (which halves its Attack and Speed for the first few turns it’s in play). Then there’ꦓs the Fossil Pokémon Archeops, which would be a real speedy powerhouse without Defeatist (which halves its offenses when it falls below 50% total HP). Any of these Pokémon could be overpowered without their ⛄so-called Abilities holding them back.
7 ಌ Put It On The Bo♋x Art
A lot of newer players tend to think that Legendary Pokémon are always super powerful. While this is often the case, many legendaries are completely average, while others are downright sub🦹-par. You don’t hear anybody claiming that Articuno is overpowered, do you?
So-called "mascots" of each game are usually a different case entirely. Palkia and Dialga, Kyogre and Groudon, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Xerneas and Yveltal…all of these sorts 🧜of Pokémon either have great all-round stats, absurd power, or both. Most of the time, then, they aren’t allowed in standard competitive play. A good rule of thumb is this: if they feature on the game’s (mainline games, that is) box art, they’re too dar⛦n strong.
6 🌌 Give It An Am﷽azing Boosting Move
Speaking of Xerneas, this majestic deer of rainbow-hued death had enough going for it. With its high Special Attack, strong Fairy moves and an Ability that buffs🌄 them further, it was a real menace. Apparently, though, that wasn’t enough, because it was also given an exclusive move that really allowed it to cause some carnage: Geomancy.
Th🌞is move give Xerneas’ Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed💟 a +2 boost. The move needs a turn to charge, granted, but that can be circumvented with a Power Herb. In a single turn, this powerhouse gave itself all the strength it needed to tear teams apart. In a more general sense, the move Shell Smash (+2 Speed, +2 Attack, +2 Special Attack, at the cost of a drop in both defense) can make even the most humdrum of offensive Pokémon into a beastly threat. Let’s not even get started on Tail Glow either.
