Riot Games’ new first-person tactical shooter VALORANT is likely to get a competitive game mode next week, according to Game Director Joe Ziegler. VALORANT had a mode during the closed beta period, though the ga꧟me fully released without it on June 2nd.

Fans of Riot Games’ VALORANT have been waiting for the return of a ranked game mode since the game officially went live. The first-person shooter began its closed beta period on April 7th, 2020,✱ opening the game to only the lucky few who had received loot drops while watching designated streams on Twitch. The game received a competitive matchmaking mode shortly after the beta’s launch, allowing players to climb up the ranked ladder.

VALORANT officially released on June 2nd, going live with only a casual, or unrated, game mode. The game eventually added additional game modes such as Spike Rush, though is yet to include competitive matchmaking. The VALORANT that their goal was to 𝔍make sure the game’s servers were comp🌞letely stable upon full launch before adding a rated game mode. Riot also stated they wanted to give new players time to acclimate to the game before adding competitive matchmaking.

VALORANT Game Director Joe Ziegler addressed this on Twitter today, reassuring fans that rated games will be coming soon. “To answer the biggest que🎀stion,” stated Ziegler, “rated (competitive mode) will likely be out sometime next week.”

Ziegler followed this by explaining that the VALORANT team has spent this last week working on preparing the comওpetitive mode for launch. There is still no official date🅷 for when the game mode will arrive, but fans can rest assured they will most likely be able to begin climbing the ranked ladder next week.

While VALORANT hasn’t had an official ranking system since launch, a hidden matchmaking rating (MMR) is still🥂 potentially being calculated from unrated games. This MMR will likely have an effect on where you eventually place in the ranks. Players will also potentially be required to play a certain number of matchmaking games to get their initial rank, just as they did in the beta.

VALORANT is out now, only on PC.
