I have no intention of traveling anywhere anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean I don’t need some sort of mobile recording solution within the confines of my own home. Being locked up in my house while working remotel♒y, it’s a common occurrence for me to move to different rooms throughout the day, if for nothing other than a change in scenery. Of course, my Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings follow me wherever I go, and since I feel like the quality of my laptop’s internal microphone is incredibly lacking, I prefer to use a USB microphone to enhance the quality of my voice in meetings.

But you know what’s not fun? Lugging around my Blue Yeti from room-to-room, especially since I prefer it to stay mounted in position on my work desk. Enter𝄹 the Razer Seiren Mini - the gaming and lifestyle brand’s humble, yet surprisingly powerful answer to a portable and fully-functional condenser microphone.

You probably already guessed, but the Razer Seiren Mini is a condensed version of ꦆthe already fantastic Seiren line of Razer microphones. What makes the Seiren Mini so unique is its compact size, allowing it to be placed anywhere from a cluttered desk to a dining room table or countertop, or event set up on the arm of a couch. The base of the mic doesn’t really feel too weighted,ꦓ but it’s more than wide enough to stably support the mic, which itself comes in at just under six and a half inches tall. The base screws into the bottom of the mic, allowing the mic to slightly tilt its positioning. The tilt range isn’t very high, but as a portable mic, you really don’t need it to have much tilt.

Setting up the Seiren Mini is a breeze, with the mic being about as plug and play as you can get. With no additꦐional dials or buttons, all it takes to get started is plugging the micro USB 3.0 into the mic and connecting the other end to your computer. It really is that si♚mple.

And how does the Seiren Mini actually sound? To be frank: pretty fantastic. The Seiren Mini is ten levels above that of my laptop’s internal microphone, even without having to be up close to the microphone while speaking. I just place the Seiren Mini to the left of my laptop as I work, and the mic does more than enough to pick up my voice during meetings withou♛t picking up any unwanted noise from the surrounding area.

This is ac𝓰hieved thanks to the Seiren Mini’s built-in shockmounಌt - which is great for my moments of heavy-handed typing - as well as the supercardioid pickup pattern which concentrates sound coming from directly in front of the mic while drowning out any sounds coming from the sides and rear. It’s not perfect, of course - my coworkers are still VERY aware that I have dogs and a one-year-old - but the sound quality is impressive, especially for a $50 microphone.

If you’re a streamer who sets up a💙t a speci☂fic battle station to create your content, the Razer Seiren Mini probably won’t be your first choice when it comes to selecting a new microphone. That said, if you’re just starting to build out your streaming setup, the Seiren Mini is a great solution as a starter mic. As for anyone on-the-go, there may not be a more portable solution with as outstanding of quality as the Seiren Mini. Whether you’re a jetsetter or just someone who likes to be able to move around your house throughout the day, the Seiren Mini is specially built to come along for the ride.
