This type of arc is actually fairly foreign to Rockstar Games' titles. In most of its games, from the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Grand Theft Auto series to Bully, players end up controlling some sort of anti-hero who is all too willing to doll out violence to those they deem fodder or counter to their aspirations. In Red Dead Redemption 2, however, this is (almost) turned on ♏its head. While Arthur Morgan first has firefights with authorities and robs banks at the cost of lives, he later confronts his wrongdoings -- literally.
Nea⛄r the beginning of the game, Arthur Morgan heads out to collect debt from a sick man whose fam🌳ily is forced to watch as Arthur inflicts violence on him. Later on, after Arthur comes to an abrupt revelation, he crosses the same man's family and must reconcile with his guilt. More interestingly, we learn at this moment that Arthur had been infected by this man and has tuberculosis, which leads to Arthur's death at the climax of the game.
Arthur Morgan was so guilt-ridden that he saw John Marston as someone whose soul could be salvaged. While Marston's nature was similar to Arthur's in that th൲ey both were naturally drawn to a l🍎ife of violence and risk, Arthur saw Marston as someone who could lead the life he wanted to ultimately have.
The sad part is that this doesn't tell the full story. Although Arthur's soul was cleansed through his own personal realization and his attempts at making things right, Marston's redemption had yet to be fully realized. Red Dead Redemption 2's epilogue shows exactly this when Marston chases after some ne'er-do-wells and, while the situation doesn't necessarily call for death, Marston elects to kill the perpetrators anyway. Thus, players are reminded of the old axiom, "the more things change, the more they stay the same."
Arthur's transformation stands in stark contrast to outlaw group leader Dutch Van Der Linde, who transforms from unifying freedom fighter to crazed outlaw. Dutch often ponders his many plans while everyone ꧋around him, including Arthur, questions his shaky authority.
Arthur Morgan is an exceptional video game character across the industry. There have been game characters who've come and gone that exemplify the notion of redemption, though few do it better than Arthur. For example, Breaking Bad's Walter White remains one of the best characters in television, as we see the character's fall from grace as he goes from family man to egotistical drug kingpin. Both similarly and contrarily, Red Dead Redemption 2's Arthur Morgan will remain one of gaming's best characters in his rise from hated outlaw to reformed anti-hero. His is an arc that moℱre games ought to use as a template for characters experiencing moral revelations and transformations.
