Red Dead Redemption II is an awesome game. One I've been pouring over for more than a week now. I'm discovering new things every day as well as the larger community of fans out there. Compared to most open world games, discovery is actually a tricky thing because travel is actually really taxing. Before I get to share some unique mechanics, treasure, and quests, let me complain a bit further about the fast travel system. A system I have posted my frustration about twice now with my two earlier articles. If you missed my piece on things that don't make sense in the game, or my article on things I wish I knew before starting, well then please, take a gander at those. Anyway in order to properly make my point clear I thought it best talk about last year's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
That's another huge open world game where discovery is just as fun as the main tasks. The reason why I was so addicted to it was, one, it's a great world to explore. Two, there were plenty of ways to fast travel and get around thus incentivizing me to keep exploring. Red Dead Redemption II doesn't do that. It has travel hubs, which are far of🔴f from the places you want to see. Actually getting to these areas from towns isn't the problem. It's getting back in one piece. Maybe I'm just too irritab⛎le. No matter, point is, thank goodness for everyone else out there. Let's get to it!
One last thing: This gets into some endgame activities — Spoilers for those who care!
30 I Want To Believe
Surprise, surprise, there are UFOs in this game. It's pretty easy to find once you know where to go. If you travel northeast of the second N in New Hanover, you’ll see a lake. Once you're there you'll find skeletons inside a cabin in a scene straight from Fallout 4. There's a cryptic letter that talks about other beings coming back for them at 2 A.M. If you🙈 go back inside at that time, you'll see a ship fly above. Is this a clue for the DLC? Will we see cowboys and aliens duke it out? I hope so.
29 A Letter For Bonnie MacFarlane
Bonnie MacFarland is the✤ woman who saves John Marston's life at the beginning of the first game. Once you get close you'll learn she's had many suitors, but nothing ever turns out well for her. If you go southeast of the first N in New Hanover, and follow the river, right about there you will see a man, presumably eliminated, next to a boat. If you try to loot him, he'll gasp for air before eventually going in peace for real. In his clutched fist ꧋is a love letter for Bonnie.
28 Up In The Sky
There's a lot of depressing discoveries in Red Dead Redemption II. A lot oꦬf which are even creepier when Arthur barely has a reaction. He just creepily scribbles cryptic notes. Anyway, another flying ruin you can discover is nor🐟th of Big Valley.
Once there you'll see the wreckage of a crazy looking flying contraption with a skeleton in 🐎it. This is probably a reference to the Wright Brothers who started building machines in 1899. This is one of their failed attempts perhaps.
27 The Serial Cowboy
I'm quite proud to say I discovered th🍃is next anomaly on my own. It was fairly early on in the game. I was heading back to camp from Valentine on the main road when I discovered a red trail leading up to a bridge. There you can start the serial destroyer's quest, which is quite intense. He leaves clues using human bodies. If you figure out the clues ♕you'll get to see a pretty amazing discovery. I won't spoil who it is though, but it's worth it.
26 The Meteorite Strike
No, sorry Sephiroth is not in the game, but perhaps he is the one that summoned this anomaly. If you go north of the V in Roanoke Valley, and slightly to the west, you'll see a small square. This is a cabin. Make a trip up there to find it has 𝕴been pierced by a meteor, smoking everyone inside to, well, really gross looking corpses. Bad for them, but good for you as you can sell th𒈔e leftover chunk for a good bit of cash.
25 Big Foot Mountain
Bigfoot has been synonymous with Rockstar games since 2004's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. There is a picture in your house fans thought was a clue to its discovery, but it wasn't in the game. This continued into the first Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto V and is back yet again for this game.
A tragic end for Sasquatch.
Unfortunately, all you get to see is a skeleton. If you go to Mount Shann, pretty much at the top of the T in West Eliza♔bet🔜h you will see the wreckage.
24 The Hidden Man Bear Pi🌌g?
This would also make for a really creepy quest in a paranormal DLC. So if you head west of Van Horn Trading Post, you will find a lone cabin in the woods. In it, you'll find a bunch of unnerving experiments. The creepiest of which is, well, I don't know how else to put it. Whoever lived in this house made a ManBearPig. Yep, this is a realistic version of the joke from South Park. That's what a lot of people b🍌elieve online anyway.
23 P.T. Comes To Red Dead
The aliens, skeletons, and mystery case are all creepy, but I think the most unsettling Easter egg is this one. If you go along the coast of the Braithwaite Manor you will eventually find an outhouse that has been chained shut. Through the crescent moon you can hear a woman's voice. If you go nea🐻r she'll reach out her hand and start going ballistic. Eventually, she'll start to recite random numbers. As of now, no one has figured out if they mean anything. It could be random, or it could be the start of something grander.
22 Fus Ro Red Dead
The Old West is indeed ancient by today's standards, but let's not forget that back then they also had ci⛎vilizations that were old even to them. For example, vikings. Well if you want Arthur to uncover some ancient Skyrim like architecture, follow the curve at the beginning of the R in Roa🐓noke Valley.
Is the axe mightier than the gun?
Slightly south you will find a 🌸viking burial ground where you can obt♌ain a helmet and hatchet. The helmet looks cool, but it doesn't have any special attributes and the hatchet is just a throwing axe that is slightly altered.
21 Hobbits Of The West
This is another find that is perhaps just the start of another quest. If you head directly south of the I in Ambarino, you can find a house reminiscent of ones you can find in The Shire from The Lord of the Rings. Unfortu𝓀nately,🙈 you can't go inside. There is something else off about it though. Above the door is a turtle symbol, the same one the cult Mary's brother tried to join. Is there a connection? Perhaps we'll soon find out.
