The original featured Carlos as a playable character, but only for a brief stretch of gameplay while Jill was out of commission. was pri♓marily Jill Valentine’s story, with Carlos more a diversion in the vein of Rebecca Chamber or Ada Wong. This all changed with ’s 2020 remake, where Carlos not only has more gameplay sections, he’s a significantly more important main character who helps bolster Jill’s arc.
Carlos is arguably the heart of the remake, lending the game’s story an important lev🦩el of humanity while also giving Jill someone to play off of. Like in the original , control swaps over to Carlos after Jill is infected by Nemesis, but the remake actually has Carlos going to the RPD in place of Jill herself. Revisiting the RPD as Carlos 🐷is one of ’s highlights, connecting back to Resident Evil 2 while offering something fresh for fans of RE3 on .
Into The RPD
After gaining control of Carlos, you’ll begin the next stretch of gameplay in the West Courtyard right outside the RPD. Heading towards the entrance, a zombified Brad Vickers will attack Carlos and Tyrell. You can either wait for Tyrell to unlock the door and escape unharmed, or hold your ground to kill Brad.🔯
While Brad has an obscene amount of health for a regular zombie, he drops his ID Card on death, which can be used inside of the Police Station to unlock weapon cases. Once Tyrell unlocks the Main Hall, head inside and grab the Green Herb all the way in the back. Now walk up the stairs, grab the Handgun🌼 Ammo in the eastern hallway, and return back down to Tyrellꦰ to continue the story.
Clearing Out The First Floor
After checking in with Tyrell at the Reception Desk, Carlos will be able to start exploring the RPD properly. The path forward is completely linear, so head straight to Reception and use Brad’s ID Card on the weapons case to u💯nlock some 16 Assault Rifle bullets. Hook into the West Hallway and just walk forward until you reach the northern half.
Zombies will start spawning now, so be ready to fight. Kill the zombie that breaks through the window and take out the one rꦰoaming the halls. Another zombie will break down the Operations Room door, but keep some distance and take them out. Grab the Flash Grenade in the Operations Room and cut through the Supply Room to find 20 Assault Rifle bullets.
Five zombies will be ready to attack Carlos as he enters the West Central Passage, but it’s possible to take them out one by one so long as you go slow and don’t draw their attention. A sixth zombie will try to ambush Carlos via the West Office, 💝but keep some distance and kill them. Enter the West Office, kill the zombie playing dead by the office, and loot yourself 10 Assault Rifle bullets, 30 Handgun bullets, 1 Red Herb, and an Assault Rifle Scope. There’s also a Hip Pouch in the office safe (9/15/7).
With the West Office cleared out, head back t📖o the West Central Passage and make your way towards the𒅌 West Stairwell. Kill the zombie blocking Carlos’ path and hook into the Darkroom. Turn on the lights, grab the Red Herb, the 20 Assault Rifle bullets, and rearrange your Item Box before saving & moving on.
Safety Deposit Key
Carlos now has to get the Safety Deposit Key befoಞre he can explore the rest of the RPD. Walk up the stairs to the second floor and enter the Men’s Locker Room. The pathway into the Women’s Locker Room will be𝔍 blocked off, but grab the Green Herb and unlock the locker (CAP) for a Flash Grenade.
Exit the Men’s Locker Room and head back up the stairs. Make sure to note the zombie playing dead (you can’t kill it quite 🅘yet) as you head up to the third floor. Grab the First Aid Kit and unlock the locker (DCM) to find 20 Assault Rifle bullets. Now grab the Safety Deposit Key up here and turn back. The zombie on the stairs will lunge at Carlos, but a few shots from the Assault Rifle should drop them fast.
The Battery
With the Safety Deposit Key in hand, return to the Dark Room and save up or heal if necessary. Carlos is goin༒g to have to face off against a Licker very soon and they can tear through his health if you aren’t carefu🐻l. Lickers respond to sound, so if you aren’t looking for a confrontation, walk very slow and make sure Carlos’ body never touches the Licker.
If you want to fight the Licker, head down the West Stairwell with a Flash Grenade equipped. Toss it right at the Licker once it’s in view and start firing at itꦑs exposed brain for extra damage. You probably won’t have enough time to drop the Licker before it aggros Carlos, but feel free to run away after dealing some damage to attack it from afar.
Once the Licker has been killed, use the Safety Deposit Key to unlock the Safety Deposit Room. A zombie will come stumbling out from the west lockers, so be ready to kill it. Make sure you also take the time to grabജ Green H✅erb and unlock lockers 106 & 109 for 30 Assault Rifle bullets and a Hand Grenade respectively. When ready, unlock locker 104 and grab the Battery.
Locker Room Battle
As you exit the Safety Deposit Room and return to the Dark Room, a zombie will drop down from the stairwell above and aggro Carlos. Kill it fast and head into the safe room to organize your inventory one last time. After bringing the Battery up to the Men’s Locker Room, ꦅCarlos will be able to blast a path towards the S.T.A.R.S. Office. Unfortunately, this will spawn several zombies in the process and you’ll be forced to fight for your life.
Stock Carlos’ inventory with as many healing items and ammo as you can, then head up to the Men’s Locker Room. P♛lace the Battery into its slot, watch the cutscene, and get ready to fight. There are eight zombies waiting in the Women’s Locker Room and they’ll all attack Carlos once he’s in sight. Use the Assault Rifle to kill the zombies in the bathroom, then pop a Grenade in the next room to take out the rest.
S.T.A.R.S. Office
If you stop to kill all the zombies in the Women’s Locker Room, there’s a good chance Carlos will be low on ammo by now. There’s still one more Licker to take care of, however, so pull out any Flash G꧑renades if you have them. Otherwise, stealth by the Licker in west Hallway and make sure to loot the 40 Assault Rifle bullets before entering the S.T.ꦬA.R.S. Office.
There aren’t any enemies to fight inside, but Carlos can actually pick up a few secret items to take with him to the Hospital. Grab the First Aid Spray from Rebecca C⛎hambers’ medic bag, the Red Herb by the front door, a Flash Grenade on a desk, and 50 Assault Rifle bullets in the weapons case. Once you’re ready, exit the S.T.A.R.S. Office to briefly swap control back to Jill.
