With all of the remakes of the games in the main franchise coming out, one title comes to mind that needs an update more than maybe any other: 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Resident Evil – Code: Veronica. Code: Veronica is one of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:hidden gems in the series, but anyone who was familiar with the franchise around the time the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dreamcast came out might testify that it's one of the best. Let's take a look at why the game deserves to be remembered, al♏ong with a few ways it does🌄n't quite hold up.

10 Holds up: The European Gothic Direction Is Great ༒

One of the most interesting things about the art direction and story of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica is that it draws very heavily from Gothic literature in its story and tone. Conversely, a lot of other entries in the series focus much more on feeling like a big-budget American horror movie, featuring explosions and a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:whole lot of zombies.

Code: Veronica was a departure from this, seeing the prota✅gonist Claire go out to a remote island, influenced 🎃by photographs taken of the dev team took.

9 Doesn't: The Dreamcast Re𝓀lease Means Few People Played It ꦛ

Unfortunately for the public perception of Code: Veronica (or the lack thereof), the game was originally released for the Sega Dreamcast as the release of 🔯the console was bolstered wi🍌th a Resident Evil game.

The system was not bad, it's just that the disappointment that was the Sega Saturn set up the Dr🌜eamcast for failure. Aside from that, the second the PS2 was announced by Sony, it was over for Sega. As a result, Code: Veronica came and went without gaining too much attention, at least until a remaster was released.

8 Holds Up: The Re🅘al-Time🥂 Backgrounds Were Ahead Of Their Time

A major improvement to the series seen with Resident Evil – Code: Veronica was the addition of real-time 3D rendered backgrounds. While it was more intensive on the console ꧃hardware, the real-time backgrounds allowed for cinematic camera panning, less static angles, and a more realistic look in general.

This format had been experimented with by Capcom before in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dino Crisis, but Code: Veronica was the firsꦯt time i𝔍t showed up in the Resident Evil franchise.

7 ๊ Doesn't: Some Of The Voice Acting Is Pretty Bad 💫

While a lot of things about Code: Veronica make the entry one of the better releases n the series, there are more th🌼an a few major issues with it.

The earlier games in the Resident Evil franchise aren't exactly known for their world-class English voice acting. Considering how popular the franchise was in America b꧟y then, one might think that Capcom would make the English voice acting a bit more of꧙ a priority.

6 🎀 Holds Up: It's Designed As Th💛e True Sequel To 2

Resident Evil Code Veronica Claire aiming her guns

This is a major issue with Capcom and video game politics more than anything else, but it has often been speculated that Code: Veronica should have been the actual 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Resident Evil 3.

Both from the original series, and what's now called Resident Evil 3 came out on top. In fact, one of the reasons why Code: Veronica didn'🍃t get the coveted "3" is because it was already part of a deal with Sega, and Sony got main series games.

5 🌃 Doesn't: The Remaster Does It No Justice

Unfortunately, the fact that it seems 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Resident Evil 4 is slated for yet another remaster/remake scenario means that once again, Code: Veronica won't get any of the due it's deserv🔯ed.

There have been a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:few remasters of Code: Veronica in the past, but they were mostly on consoles from generations ago. Aside from that, some of them are just direct ports of💯 the original Dreamcast game, while the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions only look marginally better.

4 Ho📖lds Up: The Zombies Are Incredibly Detailed

While Code: Veronica doesn't necessarily look incredible when it'💃s compared to games of today, there's really no reason one should expect it to. Aside from the fact th🌺at the game is pretty old, it looks decent in comparison to its contemporaries.

The 💜team at Capcom made sure that they increased the Polygon count drastically, added animations for the tongues, eyes, and mouths of the zombies, and experimented with the new background system.

3 Doesn't: It Still Uses Those "Classic" Resident Evil Controls ꦯ

Claire from Resident Evil Code Veronica standing in a creepy room

Love 'em or hate 'em, the commonly referred to "tank coꦑntrols" of pretty much all of the early-2000s/late 90s s♔urvival horror games are alive and well in Resident Evil – Code: Veronica.

For those who haven't played any of these older games and don't know how t☂hese controls work, the player must be entirely stopped to turn, and backward and forward on the analog stick or the D-pad cause the player to walk forward o𝔍r reverse direction. It might not sound that bad but it's kind of awful.

2 Holds Up: It Deserves The Press That 4 Gets 💃

Leon from RE4

Resident Evil 4 might not have only changed the series for the better. In Resident Evil 4, there's a drastic shift from the eerie atmospheres, puzzle-solving, and sparse💮 combat of the earlier entries in the series, trading most of those in large quantities for action scenes and fast-pace💛d gameplay.

Most of the post-Re🅰sident Evil 4 games in the franchise received so/so reviews and ended up alienating a lot of the fanbase. On the other hand, Code: Veronica just improved on the older Resident Evil games.

1 Doesn't: It🦩's About 12 Hours Long 💝

Claire from Resident Evil Code Veronica looking quizically

While games do not necessarily have to be like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Witcher 3, with its 200 hours worth of questing and gameplay, a little more than the 's main campaign provides would be immensely helpful to geꦇt more people to consider playing it. Even if a player were to complete everything in the game, that would not require more than 20 hours.

Perhaps an entire overhaul of the game like what Square Enix decided to do with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy VII recently would be the best course of action if Capcom ever does anything other than the main series game🐓s.
