I wish I could say I laughed at my own anguish after little fake out during 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Summer Game Fest last week, but apparently I take 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Resident Evil very seriously. It’s only been four years since 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Resident Evil Village and, even though we’ve had 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:some great REmakes since then, I’m chomping at the bit to fiಌnd out what’s going to happen next to my boyfriends Chris Redfield an🔯d Leon Kennedy.

"Anyone Else Catch This?": Resident Evil Fans Think They Heard A Few Iconic Characters In Requiem's Trailer

A few 🐟Resident 🌠Evil series staples might be hiding in plain sight.

After its belated reveal, I was able to catch a glimpse of Resident Evil Requiem in action. While the gameplay I was shown didn’t answer any of my burning questions about Requiem’s story, I was pleased to discover Capcom hasn’t lost its touch for buildi🌟ng incredible tension within the mundane. If you prefer the creeping paranoia of 7’s Baker Estate over the fairytale theatrics of Village, Requiem is exactly what you’re hoping it will be.

No More Bedtime Stories

Resident Evil Requiem Grace Holding A Lighter.

Protagonist Grace Ashcroft awakens in panic. She’s bound to a table with leather straps and has an IV attached to her arm. We aren’t given the context, but it’s pretty obvious this is not a good situation. After a brief struggle, Grace manages to knock the glass IV bottle off its hook (didn’t hospitals stop using those in the 70s?), before using the broken glass to cut the straps and free herself. Grace ma🌠y have seemed anxious and scatter-brained in the reveal trailer, but she’s clearly resourceful.

Grace leaves the room and finds herself in some kind of abandoned hospital or rehab ✃center. The drab kind of medical facility with little more than a reception desk, a long hallway, and a bunch of tiny rooms where peopleꦉ have suffered immensely. It’s almost too dark to see, and the only sounds we hear are Grace’s measured footsteps and her erratic, terrified breathing.

Grac🎀e’s mom, Resident Evil Outbreak protagonist Alyssa Ashcroft, died in 2016. Requiem is set eight years later in 🍎2024, so it seems like the time jump at the end of Village may not play a role here.

This is the kind of grounded, residential horror I’ve been hoping the series would return to after Villa🧔ge. Vampire castles and underground factories are fun to explore, but fantastical places just can’t produce the same visceral effect as a slow walk d꧂own a long, dark hallway. That feeling of standing at the top of a basement staircase and looking down into a black void is practically universal; a persistent childhood fear that still makes us nervous even though we know now that monsters aren’t real. I mean, they’re not, right?

The best Resident Evil titles allow us to explore that primal fear in a safe, yet tantalizing way, and based on first impressions, Requiem is nailing the vibe. It’s got all the juice of the first night in the Baker household, or wandering through the labyrinthine RPD looking for oddly shaped keys. There’s a persistent feeling of danger lurking around every corner even when there isn’t. It keeps you on edge for so long, the moment something does come at you, it’s almost a relief.

A Woman, A Monster, And A Blown Fuse

Resident Evil Requiem Close Up Of Monster With Big Teeth.

I can’t say for certain what Requiem is doing to push the series forward yet,ಌ because this demonstration was all about reconnecting to its roots. Grace opens the door to a bathroom, looking for the nearest way out, but it’s too dark to see inside, so she turns around.

Make a mental note of that one for later༺. She slowly makes her way to the far exit but it won’t open, and you’re not going to believe this, there’s a blown fuse that needs to be replaced. As much as she doesn’t want to, she has no choice but to explore. Resident Evil is always changing, but the entire series is perfectly encapsulated in this short sequence: the only way out of the nightmare is to ♏go deeper.

Grace finds a lighter, which helps her see in the dark. Not much, but it will have to suffice. She makes her way back to the bathroom, and wouldn’t you know it, something is in there. Something horrible.

Picture El Gigante, but smaller (El Gigantito?) and with a more expressive face. Bug eyes, long, rotting teeth, a vague expression that makes you wonder if it's a creature just acting on instinct, or if this is a sentient being, and which one would be scarier. There’s no time to think about that, though, because it’s coming right for you. Oh God, here it comes.

We have yet another Resident Evil tradition: a deadly game of cat and mouse. The monster stalks Grace around the hospital, but she still has to find that fuse and replace it to escape. Whether it’s Mr. X, Jack Baker, or Lady Dimitrescu, Resident Evil always needs a stalker, and this is a particularly horrible oౠne. Someone in the screening with me actually screamed when the monster was revealed, if you need to know how scary this thing is.

20 Years Of Resident Evil In One Game?

A Crater Where Raccoon City Used To Be In Resident Evil Requiem.

Grace narrowly evades the monster a few times on her way to the fuse, but the video ends before we see what💫 awaits beyond the hospital. There’s a lot packed into this small segment, though, and if Requiem is as ambitious as it's rumored to be, I expect this demonstration was very much holding back. For one final tease, it was revealed that the game can be played in its entirety in both first and third person. From the pause menu, you can toggle back and forth.

I always like to think 7 was made for first-person and was a better game for i🐭t, so I’m interested to see how the experience changes depending on your perspective, but even if one option ends up being the ‘intended’ one, I’𒁃m glad both exist.

Anniversaries are a big deal for Capcom, and Resident Evil𝓡 is undoubtedly one of its most important franchises. As the 20th anniversary game, there’s even more pressure on riding on Requiem to stick the landing. Unfortunately, if we look at each era o൩f Resident Evil as a trilogy, both 3 and 6 failed to live up to expectations. I’m hopeful Requiem will break the cycle, and from what little I’ve seen so far, it looks like Capcom is too.
