The Xbox Games Showcase opening on Richard Ayoade’s incredibly distinctive voice was not what I expected, but somehow it was exactly what I wanted. A surprise feature of the British comedian in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fable’s trailer as a giant (literally) farmer, possibly the one from Jack and the Beanst♋꧑alk, had me stunned from the get-go, but if I’d known more about Fable before seeing the trailer, I probably wouldn’t have been so surprised.

Fable, as I’ve learned after trawling the internet and reading countless Reddit threads, is an extremely British game. It’s well-loved for its British humour, self-awareness, and ability to ride the line between silliness and seriousness. I didn’t know this, having never played the🦂 games, but Fable’s trailer gave me a perfect understanding of the tone it’s going for. When I think about British comedy, I think of dryness, satire, and sarcasm. So who better thanꦓ Richard Ayaode to bring that across?

I’m biased, naturally. Richard Ayaode was a formative part of my adolescence. I watched Submarine, his directorial debut, in my ⛄early teens, as did many of my peers. The film was part of an important cultural moment for disaffected, lonely teens everywhere, especially those that loved Alex Turner, the frontman of Arctic Monkeys, who composed six original songs for the soundtrack. He also directed countless music videos for bands that teenage Tessa was obsessed with, like Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend, The Last Shadow Puppets, Kasabian, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Of course, Ayaode is best known for his BAFTA-winning role on The IT Crowd, where he played awkward IT technician Maurice Moss, and which was memorialised forever on the internet through GIFs still used regularly on Twitter to this day. It’s an incredibly funny show, and one of the oldest, most famous examples of Ayaode’s trademark dry humour. But Ayoade has a long, prolific career as a director, comedian, and writer outside of this one show – he&r🌼squo;s directed a critically-lauded episode of Community, written and directed a movie featuring Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska, starred in countless comedies, lent his voice to even more shows, authored several books, and appeared on several British comedy panel shows.

It’s not necessary to watch all of this to understand his sense of humour, or that of Fable, but I’d do it just to enrich my own life. Ayoade is, though woefully underrated by most outside of the UK, a genuine talent and an influential artist, especially for people of my generation – and perhaps that’s the most important thing. It is people my age whose first game was Fable, and people my age who grew up watching Ayoade on television. Hearing Ayoade’s voice in the Fable trailer made my eyes widen. It was a confluence of cultural phenomena that just worked, and played right to its target audience. Fans of British humour knew to pay attention, and Fable fans knew that the humour they loved so much in the series was being handled with care. Playground Games knew what they were doing, and my life is all the better🌟 for it.
