During the race, players will swap between sports as they go through shift gates. Players are given a star for finishing each round, which means that you'll get a total of three stars for finishing the Mass Race. It's a pretty slow way of building up stars, but it's reliable enough considering there are two every hour.
When you finish the race, you'll be given a reward, such as a new bike or snowboard It's not clear whether or not the reward itself is random or whether it's based on which race you did, but you do get something beyond stars for finishing the race.
