The Rings of Power set the groundwork for Amazon’s epic 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Lord of the Rings TV series. It was nowhere near perfect – and being the battleground for a culture war didn’t help bring curious viewers in – but it set the foundations for an intriguing Tolkien tale in the Second Age of Middle-earth. Now we’ve had the first Rings of Power Season 2 teaser trailer, we have an idea of what’s coming ღnext when the new season releases ඣon August 29.
First, a small recap. The ending of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Rings of Power Season 1 saw Halbrand reveal his true nature, betraying Galadriel in the process. Elendil and the army of Númenorians sailed to the mainland somewhat prematurely, his son Isildur is missing (presumed dead by anyone who doesn’t have even the most basic knowledge of The Lord of the Rings), and his Queen has been blinded. The Dwarfs didn’t have much to do in the first season, but their hunt for Mithril has unearthed a lore-bending Balrog, which is sure to play a part in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Rings of Power Season 2.
The Harfoots are travelling east with the Stranger (hinted to be Gandalf, but I wouldn’t rule ou🦂t a u-turn on this if Amazon has acquired some more rights to other Tolkien pages), and don’t forget Galadriel is awaiting the return of her beloved Celeborn from the war. Again, we have another crucial character presumed dead, so I think we can safely expect him to appear sooner rather than later. Finally, in the Southlands, we’ve seen the creation of Mordor. As this storyline has no basis in Tolkien’s work, it’s the area that’s most d𓆏ifficult to predict, and the Season 2 teaser trailer doesn’t help us there.
The Rings Of Power Season 2 Teaser Trailer
The Rings of Power Season 2 teaser trailer is an action-packed affair – it is a trailer, after all. However, despite the explosions and flaming arrows, there are a few thiﷺngs that are immediately missing.
Celeborn is nowhere to be seen, and Isildur only appears for a fraction of a second with Arondir. Halbrand has a new look, with Charlie Vickers returning in the form of Annatar. This is Sauron&rsq🌃uo;s elfin form, which he uses to persuade Celebrimbor to forge the eponymous rings of power. It looks like all 🐭of the remaining rings will be forged this season, as we clearly see the Sack of Eregion, which will presumably act as the season’s finale. Spoilers follow.
What Is The Sack Of Eregion?
The Sack of Eregion is Sauron’s revenge when Celebrimbor eventually defies﷽ him. He leads an army of Orcs out of Mordor towards Eregion, laying waste to the Elven city with brutal consequences (even more brutal than Celebrimbor losing his hand as shown briefly in the trailer). There’s one moment of this battle that Tolkien fans will already have in mind, and is my most anticipated moment of the entire show, but it’s coming incredibly early. I thought this would be a Season 3 or 4 finale, rather than Season 2.
Everything in Season 2 will head towards the focal point of this devastating battle. Where Galadriel took on the mantle of protagonist in the first season🅰, Annatar and Celebrimbor will take the front foot this time around.
What Happens To The Rings Of Power?
We see 13 rings of power in the teaser trailer. Three are on the fingers of the Elves – Galadriel and Gil-Gala♕d are obvious, and the third should be Cirdan, who didn’t appear in the first season. Celebrimbor also tries to dispose of the nine in a fire – those are the rings of men. Finally, we see Durin with a resplendent jewelled ring, presumab💛ly one of the seven distributed to the Dwarfs. This may be the only Dwarven ring we see in the series.
Did Amazon Confirm The Blue Wizards?
We see a lot of magic in the teaser trailer, and some indistinguishable creatures, too. I’d like to point out first of all that Annatar’s magic is not what it appears. Annatar flicks his wrists and an explosion of frost blasts for miles, but this is a tricksy edit for the trailer. You can tell that the background of the first shot, where Annatar iꦬs captured, is Eregion, specifically Celebrimbor’s forge. The explosion emanates from the keep Galadriel explored in the first episode of the first season, creati𝓰ng the frosty landscape of the Forodwaith. This is a flashback, unrelated to Annatar’s powers.
How😼ever, there’s also a devastating sandstorm that Nori seems to be caught in – both her and The Stranger seem to have arrived in Rhun, which is very exciting. There are ghostly figures surrounding Galadriel and company at one point (maybe Barrow Wights? They only come into existence in the Third Age, but The Rings of Power has already compressed the timeline significantly).
In the description of the Rings of Power Season 2 teaseᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚr trailer, Amazon mentions “wizards” pl꧟ural, lending credence to the theory that the Stranger is a Blue Wizard, and we’ll be meeting his counterpart soon.
There’s some Venom-like black goo, which faꦉns think could be Shelob or Sauron’s transformation into Annatar, but the jury’s still out. Magical moths fly about in Khazad-dûm, and a huge sea creature attempts to devour an indistinguishable character. While the latter is possibly the Watcher outside the Doors of Durin or the monstrous creature from the water in Season 1, there are plenty of questions to be answered come August.
Why Is The Eagle In Númenor?
I haven’t even mentioned Pharazôn’s alliance with a giant Eagle. I don&rs🦩quo;t know how this fits into Tolkien’s writings other than possibly a dream sequence, or Sauron manipulating Eärien via the Palantir. Perhaps it’s not an alliance at all, and Pharazôn slays the eagle, Manwe’s messenger, as a symbolic rejection of Valinor.
We see so l൲ittle of any characters barring the Elves and Annatar. The Harfoots, Humans, and Dwarfs will all have parts to play this season, but we are clearly focused on the forging of the rings and Sack of Eregion. I hope that the other storylines aren’t as neglected in the show as they are in the trailer.
It’s impossible to guess at how The Rings of Power Season 2 will be from this snippet, but it seems to have the same high production quality as thဣe first. If the script improves and the action ensues, we could be in for a treat.
