Yetter said the goal of the changes to crit is to “Bring a bit more power into the early curve and slightly less exponential payoff”, and, “Broaden the choices for champs building crit”. The changes begin with critical strike damage reducing from 200% to 175%. Yetter justifies the change by saying, “This pulls power from super late game crit builds and lets us put a bit more upfr🅷ont stats.” He specifically points out attack damage and ꦺattack speed.
Riot also plans to lower the crit chance per item from 25% to 20%. To make up for the lost crit percent, the team plans to add crit on “a lot of useful items”. Yetter specifically mentions Mercurial Scimitar, Bloodthirster, and Mortal Reminder. The team hopes the changes will “open up buil🦩d choice dramatically”. Yetter confirms in a separate tweet that all changes keep champions with unique crit mechanics like Senna and Yasuo in mind. He finishes the post by saying the team is working on items for non-crit champs and “creative things for on-hit type champions to open up their options.”
The crit changes Yetter proposes completely shake-up how champions build and play, specifically marksmen. Most champions in the role depend on crit itꦺems, like Infinity Edge and Zeal items, to maximizeꦆ damage output. The changes force marksmen players to rethink a previously streamlined build path, which is a good thing.
