Rise Of The Ronin Gets Release Date

Like Team Ninja's past work, Rise of the Ronin is a Soulslike, but unlike its past work, it's open-world. As game director Fumihiko Yasuda says, it is "undoubtedly the most ambitious and challenging project" the studio has worked on to date.

Rise of the Ronin takes place at the end of the Edo period, set in 19th-century Japan. As such, you'll be able to use period-accurate firearms as well as the usual close-combat weaponry.

"We at Koei Tecmo have had many titles in the past that were based on history. But with Rise of the Ronin, we set out to take the next big step," the studio wrote in last year's .

Team Ninja's Soulslikes have reviewed incredibly well from the outset, with Nioh garnering an average of 88 on Metacritic, Nioh 2 an average of 85, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty an 81. This will be their fourth Soulslike in seven years, with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty having only just launched earlier this year.
