When it comes to Rise Of The Ronin's stealth assassinations and bloody combat, the🐼 more, the merrier!
You'll soon realize that the political and persꦚonal spheres are closely intertwined. It is hinted that your Blade Twin may be bodyguarding the same ♛US diplomat that your anti-shogunate friends plan to assassinate. Will you choose to assist the expulsionists or betray them? And will you find your Blade Twin in the process? Here's everything you need to know about The Plot To Assassinate Harris.
Anti-Shogunate Vs. Pro-Shogunate Routes
One central conflict in Rise Of The Ronin is the external threat of imperialism. The current shogun, Naosuke Ii, wishes to extend Japan's foreign relations. However, an 🥀anti-shogunate faction led by Shoin Yoshida and his students seeks an alternative future for the nation that prioritizes the welfare of its people.
Choosing to side with the pro-shogunate or anti-shogunate faction directly affects Rise Of The Ronin's story. The Plot To Assassinate Harris is the first mission where you'll choose to assist the shogun or the expulsionists.
How To Unlock Each Route
After Ryoma introduces you to Kogoro Katsura and the gang at Sakura 🔥Inn, you must have two conversations to unlock the anti-shogunate and pro-shogunate 🤡routes, respectively.
- Talk to Katsura at the Sakura Inn to unlock the anti-shogunate route. This conversation reveals his plan to assassinate a US diplomat named Townsend Harris. He'll ask you to join his cause.
- Talk to Taka at the Miyozaki Pleasure District to unlock the pro-shogunate route. This conversation reveals that someone tipped off the shogunate about the assassination plot against Harris. She'll offer to get you inside the US Consulate in exchange for intel about the assailants.
Mission Rewards
The rewards you'll receive upon completing Tꦬhe Plot To Assassinate Harris are identical. The pro and anti-shogunate routes share these rewards:
- 1,300 Coins
- 25 Karma Points

- One Excellent Consumable
- One Excellent Crafting Material
There is an optional task to defeat two formidable foes in this mission. Completing the task𒀰 grants these rewards:

- Pro-Shogunate: One Exquisite Rifle
Mission Walkthrough
Besides who you report to before and after the mission, The Plot To Assassinate Harris mission does not change regarding which faction you choose to align with. It's a straightforward mission that requires stealth more than anything else. And if you preserve your resources in anticipation of the final boss battle, you should come out of this missio🐻n okay.
Talk To Taka (Pro-Shogunate)/Katsura (Anti-Shogunate)
You'll begin the mission by approaching either Taka (pro-shogunate) or Katsura (anti-shogunate). Taka is located outside the US Consulate's left side near the back of the courtyard.
Katsura is located just outside the entrance gate to the Consulate. On🎃ce you agree to either of their terms, the mission will beg♏in.
Infiltrate The Consulate
Infiltrating the US Consulate is the most arduous task to complete because US Soldiers surround the building and roam its halls inside. You must consider your approach carefully if you w♊ish to successfully break in.
You may feel compelled to barge in through the front door. However, that would be a mistake. First, an archer is above the front door on the outside balcony. Second, the Consulate's main lobby is armed with guards. Third, there is a soldier inside the lobby operating a Gatling gun who's ready to rip your body into shreds.
Can you fight through the guards and avoid the Gatling gun? Yes. But should you do that? We don't think so.
You'll have a significantly higher chance of success if you scale the sides of the building and enter that way. There is a broken bay window on the right side of the building that you can hop through.
If you decide to roam further back, you'll find some grappling points allowing you to roam the outside balcony. Several open doors will let you waltz int🐻o one of the upstairs rooms.
Use ranged weapons to take out low-level enemies and avoid melee ༺combat. This will save you plenty of medicinal items.
Find The Ballroom Key
If you can make it to the Ballroom without getting mowed down, you'll be disappointed to discover it's locked. You'll need to find the Ballroom Key to enter. Fortunately, the key is not far off. If you take a left at the Ballroom door and head upstairs, you'll find a US soꦛldier in the following sitting room. Defeat the soldier, and he'll drop the key.
You can also enter the sitting room via the outdoor balcony. This is the best approach if you want to avoid the main entrance. However, you'll have to weave in and out of rooms and take out plenty of soldiers to get there. If you've developed the Detector with Igashichi, this would be the perfect time to use it.
A Veiled Edge Banner and a Black Marketeer are in th💙e same room where you'll find the key! This would be an excellent time to restock your inventory and purchase whatever sundrﷺies and upgrades you can.
Enter The Ballroom And Fight Your Blade Twin
The expulsionists may care about assassinating Harris. But your goal is to find the samurai ♍protecting him. Upon entering the Ballroom, you'll discover this samurai is, in fact, your Blade Twin. And the Veiled Edge you once relied on will now turn against you. We have a detaꦍiled guide for . However, here are some bullet points.
- Watch out for your Blade Twin's Martial Skills, including their newly acquired Demon Claw attacks.
- Since your Blade Twin uses multiple weapons, you must change your Combat Style to adapt to them.
- Lastly, another US Soldier will break through the stained-glass window with a Gatling gun. Fight close to the walls to avoid getting shot.
Report Back To Taka (Pro-Shogunate)/Katsura (Anti-Shogunate)
Once you've exhausted your Blade Twin's defenses, they'll escape with Harris. All you'll have left to do is regroup with Taka (pro-shogunate) or Katsura (anti-shogunate) in the same locations where you started your mission. After a brief ൩co♉nversation, the mission will be complete.

Veiled Edge Banner Locations
With so many soldiers to fight, Veiled Banners will become very helpful. There are two Veiled Edge Banners in the UജS Consulate. Here is where you'll find 🔴them:
- The first Veiled Edge Banner is at the top of the stairs on the right side of the building. You'll find it by climbing the staircase near the broken first-story window.
- The second Veiled Edge Banner is inside the same room as the Ballroom Key. It's on the left side of the building's second story.
Optional Tasks
Are you a completionist who can't finish a mission without scaling every inch of the location and taking down as many enemies as possible? If so, keep reading for some additional tasks you can complete in "The Plot To Assassinate Hꦡarris."
Defeat Two Formidable Foes
In this mission, you can obtain an additional reward by defeating two enemy leaders (a.k.a. formidable foes). Defeating enemy leaders weakens their subordinates, so taking down these formidable foes has mu🍰ltiple benefits. But where are these foes hiding?
- A formidable foe is wielding a greatsword outside the Consulate building near the far-right side.
- A second formidable foe wields a bayonet inside the sitting room with the Ballroom Key. You'll need to defeat him to get the key, regardless of whether you wish to complete the optional task.
Gun Down The US Soldiers
If you take down the soldier operating the Gatling gun facing the Consulate entrance, you can use the weapon yourself. When you handle the gun, more soldiers will appear from the Consulate's entryways. Shoot them down before they can shoot you and your comrades. Once the deed is done, you can reap the ✅massive amount of item drops the soldiers will leave behind!
