How to Unlock

Abilities
As mentioned earlier, Commando is pretty simple; all his attacks use his two pistols. Here are Commando's default abilities and what they do.

Commando also has an unlockable skin that can be obtained by either beating the final boss or obliterating on Monsoon mode. The skin, called Hornet, turns Commando's helmet yellow and changes the appearance of his outfit.

As we know, Commando relies on items. His simple abilities do some damage, but not nearly enough compared to other characters. Fortunately, Commando has a high proc coefficient for his abilities. This means that using his abilities has a higher chance to trigger luck-based item effects.
At a certain point, specific items don't matter. These items listed below are great choices for earlier in your run. Tips and Tricks
Stacking items is your best friend. When you play as Commando, remember to prioritize this! It's very easy to get the hang of his abilities, but the damage isn't very much. At first, Commando may seem to do the perfect amount of damage, but after a few stages (and as enemies become tougher) Commando's attacks seem to fall behind.
With stacks of ⛦the items mentioned above, you will be able to do large amounts of damage and take down entire hordes of enemies by yourself.
There are dozens of items to pick from and with Commando's relatively basic abilities, you can use items to make a unique build that fits your play style.
Lastly, Double Tap should be your go-to ability; it fires continuously, so you can just keep it held down while playing. The ability is less accurate the farther away you are from an enemy, so try to stay close to the action.
Which Ability Should You Choose?
Secondary
For Commando's Secondary Ability, Phase Blast is a better option. It does way more damage. Phase Blast is great for a tough enemy/boss, dealing a total of 1,600 percent damage (if you land both shots). Phase Round only does a total of 300 percent damage, so it's obvious to see which one is the better choice.
Utility
Commando's Utility Abilities aren't the best. He lacks mobility, so it is important to stack movement-based items. Overall though, Tactical Slide is a little better. You moveღ the same as Tactical Dive, but you can also fire at the same time.
Special
Lastly, let's talk about Commando's Special Ability. Suppressive Fire does slightly more damage than Frag Grenade and can scale to speed-boosting items, like Soldier's Syringe. This means that it can fire more bullets, and in turn, do more damage.
