Recently, we passed the 10-year anniversary forꦉ the disastrous reveal of t൩he Xbox One, an event that somehow seems older than Rockstar's game even though GTA 5 launched on the older Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But that's because Rockstar has ported the game to each successive generation since then, as well as supporting GTA Online, which remains a phenomenon. But gaming has been waiting for the follow-up with mounting impatience.

The CEO of Rockstar's parent company recently suggested that development on Grand Theft Auto 6 has been difficult and that the studio has been seeking "perfection", which is not worrying at all considering past reports of crunch at the company. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was on The Aarthi and Sriram Show when he spoke about the challenges Rockstar faces with GTA.

Zelnick was prompted to talk about how he handles the pressure from the gaming community with new releases and the CEO began by talking about one of the titles the publisher is responsible for. This was the Civilisation series, which Zelnick used as an example of a game where fans may not like the additions that co🐼me with each new entry. But he then got on to talking about GTA (starts at 31:12 in the video below).

"You identify a significant issue whenever we put out a sequel or even more in Civilisation, really recreate the franchise," he told the show. "I think that's a challenge that the folks that Rockstar face every time there's a new iteration of Grand Theft Auto."

He went on to expand on the struggle the famed developer faces with each new installment in its most popular series. "It needs to be something you've never seen before on the one hand, and it needs to reflect the feeling that we about Grand Theft Auto. That's a big challenge for the team," he said. "Now, Rockstar's answer is just to seek perfection. Seek nothing short of perfection, and we'll get there."

It sounds like high standards that Rockstar sets itself, but this is a reputation the compan🎉y has earned even if it meant crunching its staff. In 2018 it was widely reported the company had staff on Red Dead Redemption 2 working 100-hour weeks. However, the company has said it has and even scaled down the scope of GTA 6 in order to avoid overtime.

Meanwhile, there are signs that GT🎶A 6 will launch sometime in 2024 with Zelnick suggesting in his last earnings call that next year would be a huge year for earnings.
