It’s likely one of the most✱ monetarily successful video games of all time. It has 🐠over 200,000+ concurrent players on PC daily on Steam alone.

So where the hell is the PC ve✤rsion of GꦬTA 6 at launch?

The Triple Dip

Rockstar has always focused on consoles for GTA. GTA IV is notoriously a horrendous mess on PC and was never officially fixed, so it was passionate modders who eventually got it to a better running state. GTA 5 released 🌠on PC several months after it launched on consoles, even though it was originally slated to be released simultaneously on both platforms. A PC version is conspicuously missing from the most recent GTA 6 trailer.

A console release obviously makes sense for a game like GTA. It’s inherently casual, one of the most mainstream video games ever and is, honestly, best enjoyed from your sofa. I’m not arguing here about PC versus console. I’m just trying to understand why a studio isn’t releasing its flagship title on one of the largest plaꦬtforms that its current games are enjoyed on. It’s got me cooking up all kinds of conspiracy theories.

My Silly Theory

You’d think that a company the size of Rockstar, with the backing of one of the largest video game publishers of all time, would have a PC version ready to go for the launch🧔 of one of the most anticipated video games in a decade. It’s almost unfathomable that the PC version of the game isn’t r🏅eady after over a decade in development. Why would they skip out on hundreds of thousands of PC players opening their wallets for the new game?

I suspect it’s ꦗbecause suckers like me will buy it twice. The real big suckers will buy it three times. Once on current-gen consoles, once on PC, and then once again on the next generation of consoles that can’t be too far away from now. With the predicted cost of GTA 6 hovering around $100, that’s a whole lotta money to be made. At this point, I’m almost surprised that the game hasn’t been delayed further to become a release𝔍 title for the PS6 - but then Take-Two would miss out on selling the game on current consoles, so fat chance of that happening.

So the question isn’t really about whether Rockstar is foolish for once again ignoring PC players at the launch of GTA 6, but rather whether this is actually all a scheme to get more cash from players. With how triple-A gaming has skewed over the past few years - and the horror stories we hear about ever-increasing game budgets and employee layoffs - I can only assume that Take-Two ဣis trying to milk this release for absolutely 𒉰as much as possible.
