Roguelikes ha𓂃ve become increasingly popular over the past ten years thanks to their punishing, yet rewarding gameplay. Just like the procedurally generated levels that make up the genre, no two roguelikes are the same.
We continue our "Best of the Decade" coverage with TheGamer News Team's Roguelikes of the Decᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚade!
Sam Watanuki - 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Slay The Spire
Slay The Spire was the first game that I reviewed this year, as well as one of my first entries into the roguelike genre. The charming animations and fun strategy had me hooked during each playthrough. The addictive nature of the game kept me playing far longer than I ever thought I would, and that’s just while it was available on PC. I can’t imagine the lost (not wasted) hours I might incur if I we🍌re to pick the g♐ame up for the Switch...
Bella Blondeau - Outer Wilds
Outer Wilds shed the game-y, hard-as-nails mentality of most roguelikes and instead used the genre to deliver a meditative journey into the heart of space - and into the minds of players. ꦏIt's a wild genre hybrid that pushed back against the popular narrative of what these sorts of games ought to be, and I admire that audacity.
Eric Switzer - The Binding Of Isaac
The nice thing about there being so many different releases of this game is that I actually have no idea how many hundreds of hours I've sunk into it. I own Binding Of Issac on every single console and pick it up every time I don't want to "get into" a game, but then end up playing it for three hours every single time. Running again and again for that broken god build is a siren's call I cannot refuse. Many have tried to copy Isaac, none have succeeded.
Jamie Latour - Enter The Gungeon
Enter The Gungeon married the challenge of a roguelike to the even more extreme challenge of a shmup. Gungeon, at its core, is essentially a looter shooter dungeon crawler that manages to 𝕴beat you up while also throwing hundreds of pop culture references in your face at the same time. It's hard, funny, and full of secrets, which is everything you could possibly look for in a roguelike.
Andrew Penney - Enter The Gungeon
Devolver Digital is a treasure-trove of incredible games, many intense yet comical. Enter The Gungeon no exception. You can get a gun that is a bullet, that shoots guns🌳... and you can shoot at bullets with that gun-sh꧙ooting bullet gun. (Oh, and it executes the roguelike genre brilliantly.)
