The Russian sci-fi movie Sputnik - a horror film with references to the Alien franchisꦓe - will receive an English-language remake. Matt Reeves, who directed the new Batman with Robert Pattinson, will co-produce the upcoming Sputnik remake with Fyodor Bondar✤chuk and Egor Abramenko from the original project.
XYZ Films, Village Roadshow Pictures, and 6th & Idaho will work col𒈔laboratively on the English-language Sputnik remake, . Matt Reeves, known for Cloverfield, Let Me In, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, will produce the movie alongside his Russia🅘n colleagues. Russian studios Vodorod Pictures, Art Pictures, and Hype Film are also involved, with Fyodor Bondarchuk and Ilya Stewart serving as producers. The director of the original Sputnik, Egor Abramenko, has signed on as executive producer.
Set in the Soviet Union in 1983 during the Cold War, Sputnik follows a young doctor, played by Oksana Akinshina, who is recruited by the military to work on a secret project. Akinshina's character tends to a cosmonaut, played by Pyotr Fyodorov, whꦑo survived a mysterious space accident and is forced back to Earth - unfortunately bringing an alien organism with him. The doctor’s task is to separate the alien parasite from its host, as the military is interesting in weaponizing the organism.
Sputnik was releꦬased in 2020 and received positive reviews from critics (). It also💖 topped the iTunes genre chart in the US — the first Russian film to do so.
Previously the leading Russian pr▨oducer Fyodor Bondarchuk, who also stars in the original film, noted that the creators had foreshadowed their international success. “Sputnik is at the very beginning of its journey, and the film, as well as the director, will be appreciated in t♛he world box office," he explained.
As for now, the Sputnik English-language remake has no release date, official title, or act𒅌ors. The movie is scheduled to begin filming some time in early 2022.
