The next character to come to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be Min Min from ARMS. Min Min isn't the main character of ARMS, as Spri𝓀ng Man is featured prominently in the promotional material for th𒁃e game, but Masahiro Sakurai gave a strange reason for why he wasn't used.
The addition of an ARMS character to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was made with an announcement that never reveal♈ed the identity of the character. No one thought Spring Man was going to be the rep, as he's already in the game as an Assist Trophy. Spring Man is also the most boring character on a roster filled with interesting designs.
The recent Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct revealed that Min Min was coming to the game as a DLC character. Sakurai mentioned that the producer of ARMS specifically reꦇquested that Min Min be the choice. He also made a 𝔍cryptic comment about why Spring Man didn't make it into the game. According to the translation of Sakurai's words in the Direct, "... when you search for Spring Man in Japan, the image results show a certain enemy from a certain manga."
This comment initially confused many Super Smash Bros. fans. Some of the people more knowledgable in gaming and manga thought that he might be referring to Spring Man from the Mega Man series, or Bellamy from One Piece, whose power allows him to tra🔯nsform his limbs into spr🐼ings.
The character who Sakurai was most likely referring to was Springman from Kinnikuman, which is the pro-wresting/superhero manga that used to run in Weekly Shonen Jump. The anime sequel to Kinnikuman was brought to the west as Ultimate Muscle years after itꦿ finished. Springman was a villain who was literally a giant spring (see the cover image above) who fought in wrestling matches and defeated opponents with his Devil Slinky attack.
The reason why Sakurai might have wanted to avoid people googling Springman is due to a scene in the Kinnikuman manga where he rips a hero named Wolfman apart. This is just speculation, however, and it's poss🌃ible that the mention of a manga villain was just a flippant comment on Sakurai's part.
Min Min will be available to download in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on June 29, 2020. She can be unlocked for the price of $5.99 and will be instantl💦y available to players on release date if they purchase the second Fighters Pass.
