6 Thief
While the Thief is the first proper hero class on this list, all that can really be said in their favor is that they're slightly better than the Pauper. An extra point of starting Willpower grants a little more Stamina than the previous two classes, and the Thief's starting weapon, the Midshipman's Dirk, is actually pretty decent once they've put some points into Dexterity.
The biggest advantage the Thief has from the get-go is a generous supply of grenades and throwing daggers, allowing them to vary their tactics while they grind out their firstജ few levels.
5 Cleric
The Cleric is best suited to keeping themself healthy with Prayers. These holy powers usually take the form of heals and defensive buffs, which the Cleric will need because they aren't likely to be wearing much in the way of armor.
While the Cleric does start with an extra point of Endurance, letting them wear heavier gear than some other classes at first, this priestly pugilist won't often have the skill points to spare when leveling up. Prayers need Wisdom to empower them and Willpower to keep your Stamina high, and you'll also need Strength for when a mace is more expedient than an appeal to the gods.
4 Hunter
If you like to keep your opponents at range, the Hunter is the way to go. The Hunter's starting loadout includes a crossbow, giving them an unparalleled advantage over the other classes when it comes to long-range combat.
Of course, it's nearly impossible to keep your enemies at a distance in Salt And Sanctuary, especially during boss fights, so the Hunter's whip is critical when you do get stuck in melee. Be ready to swap between your active loadouts often when playing as this class.
3 Knight
Thi♒s brea꧋d-and-butter fighter is the first on the in-game class list for a reason. With solid starting gear and a no-nonsense melee approach to combat, the Knight is an ideal choice for first-time players.
While the Knight might not be the most exciting class in the game, they're able to get the job done - especially if you master the rhythm of blocks and parries to land consistent critical strikes. The Knight's simple approach also makes leveling up a breeze - just keep pumping points into Strength and Endurance, with the occasional detour into Willpower for much-needed Stamina.
2 Paladin

While you might think the Paladin can easily skill into using Prayers like the Cleric, this class isn't any closer on the Skill Tree to unlocking holy power than their Knightly Counterpart. 1 Mage
The Mage is the only class that starts the game with access to Spells, and the other classes have to put in extra work to reach the level of arcane knowledge this hero can boast. While the Mage is lightly armored and vulnerable to damage, their ability to deal damage both in melee and with magic makes them the game's most versatile fighter.
Having to manage Spells along with the rest of your inventory while also keeping an eye on your Health and Stamina can be challenging, but the Mage is as deadly as they come in Salt And Sanctuary.
