In the past I’ve written about how ♒conventions were essential in✱ rekindling my love for the things I enjoy, so I was ecstatic to attend last month. In planning how we’d approach the weekend, I thought my colleague 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Eric Switzer was kidding when he told me there was “no other convention like it” when I remarked on t🍸he size of SDCC. “I’ve been to conventions before,” I thought to myself, “so how different could it be?”
Turns out, vastly. The numbers aren’t out for 2024 yet, but the SDCC website reports “attendance topping 130,000 in recent years,” and I believe i🅷t. The San Diego Convention Center itself is massive, and it took me just over 15 minutes to walk from one corneꦬr to the other through the sea of people when I went to the wrong place for an appointment – and that was on Thursday, the second-slowest day of the con.

Video Game Industry Conventions And Events I🔴n 2024
If you're looking to attend a popular game showcase o🍃r convention, we've got the when and where of every major gaming event of the yea🍷r.
That’s because🀅 no matter what your specific flavor of nerdiness is, there was something for everyone at SDCC. I spent the weekend bouncing between booths and chatting with people on the show floor, and it was fascinating to peek behind the curtain at so many different projects.
I saw a little bit of everything &ndas𒁃h; clothing, accessories, art, electronics, toys, and more – and what all these companies had in common were the developers’ genuine interest in their product. I asked them all where the inspiration for their work came from, and most of them told me some variation of, “We made this because we’re fans of the thing, and we’d want this as fans, too.”
Collectibles And Tech
It was a sentiment I heard a lot as I toured . Peter Santa-Maria and Hector Arce, the company's senior creative directors, took turns sharing the details of different displays around their booth, showcasing a number of their lines of vinyl collectibles.
Around the perimeter of their space on the show floor were dozens of painstakingly detailed toys covering franchises fro🐲m the last several decades, offering everything from limited-edition colorings of Godzilla to casual collector sets like the Daria and Jane Lane I fell in love with. One of the coolest things they showed me was a Michael Meyers figurine that came in a weathered vinyl jack-o-lantern, packed with orange streamer paper to simulate pumpkin guts.
But floor attractions didn’t stop at just personalizing your gaming space – there were plenty of chances to personalize your tech, too. Steven Kunz, PR and marketing strateg♍ist for , showed me around the booth the company was sharing with to highlight their . I had seen the company before at AnimeNYC when they were promoting a Persona 3 Reload computer tower, and Kunz proudly shared with me their work with a number of popular V-Tubers, highlighting the brand’s versatility as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Clothing And Accessories
If you’d like to take your fandom on the go as well, I had appointments with a few different clothing vendors. Bioworld and Atsuko b🌄oth stood out to me as I walked the show floor and chatted with the people at the booths.
had built a highly stylized, looming display for their Star Wars merchandise that incꦜluded several new pieces celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace. Paul Beck from Bioworld told me about how the company enjoys hearing from fans so they can plan their show displays as far in advance as possible, always listening to what consumers want to see on their ♕shelves. He was proud to highlight their selection of bomber jackets, versatile enough to be worn for both casual wear and cosplay alike.
, meanwhile, is a company hybridizing casual streetwear with sleek gaming and anime designs. As I flipped through their rack of colorful clothing, the team at Atsuko told me that the company's goal was to create a centralized place for fans of Japanese media to find accessible, stylish merch the way fans of western franchises have long been able to. It focuses on producing exclusive merch and accessories for some of the bigger names in anime, showcasing both Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Jujutsu Kaisen items prominently among a strong selection of other games and shows.
In the earlier days of nerd culture, our choices for collectibles were limited, but it was really cool to see that the people who grew up with those limitationsꦚ became adults ready to break the mold🐠. It’s through Mondo, iBUYPOWER, Bioworld, Atsuko, and all the other companies like them on the show floor at places like Comic Con that people can flaunt their interests with passion and pride.
