The sci-fi genre is no stranger to having outlandish and oftentimes complicated plots for the audience to follow, with no exception being placed on video games in this genre. While many sci-fi games have evolved to have a fairly easy-to-follow plot such as the Halo and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ratchet and Clank series, there are still some out there that like to confuse ♓their audiences the first time around.

Taking inspiration from several classic films and novels that draw out plot points only to reveal their significance at the very end, there are many sci-fi games that can be downright confusing the first time around. These titles only become clear once the player has finished the game entirely. They allow for additio🔯nal context on subsequent playthroughs that put e♊verything into greater perspective.

10 Bioshock

Andrew Ryan in Bioshock

One of the more iconic instances of a twist ending that put the entirety of the game into a new perspective was the "would you kindly" twist towards the end of the original Bioshock. While there's a revelation that the player character, Jack, w๊as born in Rapture and is Ryan's son, it's the reveal that he never had a say in anything ไfrom the very beginning that puts the entire plot into perspective.

Not only does th𒈔is explain how Jack is able to go wherever he wants (thanks to his genetic signature allowing him to open doors that were previously locked to Ryan's own signature), but Atlas' background manipulation of the player has💯 a whole new meaning that may change the player's perspective of how they approach certain plot points on subsequent playthroughs.

9 Prey

Prey is similar to Bioshock in many significant ways, not the least of which is the connection between the disembodied voice that directs the player, but also the twist that Morgan, the protagonist of Prey, isn't all they appear to be.

Toward the end of Prey, it is revealed that, not only did Morgan volunteer for the Neuromod procedure knowing full well what the consequences were, but that the real Morgan has been dead for quite some time. The versionℱ of Morgan that players control is actually a Typhon that has had the memories and experiences of the human Morgan Yu implanted into them — a fact that puts the first few hours of the game in♐to greater context on subsequent playthroughs.

8 Prototype

Alex talking to the mysterious soldier in the opening of Prototype

Like its fierce competition at the time of release, Infamous, 168澳洲幸运♐5开奖网🦹:Prototype's story is somewhat convoluted thanks in no small part to the constant flash-forwards to show Alex Mercer💃 talking with an unknown soldier at the end of the game. Throughout the game, the player learns more and more about the Blacklight Virus, but it's not until toward the very end that everything comes together and the story begins to make more sense.

With the additional knowledge of who Alex is talking to, the history of Elizabeth Greene, and the revelation that Alex himself was the one who started the Blacklighꦏt outbreak, several key moments early in the story make much more sense on a second and third playthrough of the game.

7 🧸 🍒 Quantum Conundrum

Ike waving to the player character in Quantum Conundrum

A lesser-known first-person puzzle game in the same vein as the Portal titles, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Quantum Conundrum sees the player control of the twelve-year-old nephew of Professor Quadrangle, who spends the majority of the game trapped in some unknown dimension witꦚh no memory of how he got there.

At the very end of the gam💜e, it is revealed that Quadrangle's experiments resulted in the warped reality that took over his home and he remembers — almost too late — that he purposefully escaped to his pocket dimension to prevent himself from being killed. Taking this knowledge into 🍒future playthroughs adds some much-needed context to several areas of the game that were quite confusing the first time around.

6 Control

Taking inspiration from pseudoscience and bizarre, unexplained events in the world, it's not surprising that it takes players a while to realize what is going on in the world of Control. Aside from a large amount of jargon and technical babble that means jus๊t as much to Jesse as it does to the player, it's very easy to get lost in the lore and background of the Federal Bureau of Control.

However, with t⭕he back to back reveals of the source of Jesse's powers, the origins of the Hiss, and the efforts of Dr. Darling to prevent the Hiss from entering the Oldest House, all of the bizarre events that lead Jesse to find the FBC finally start to make some sense — right up until the revelation that their entire reality may have been a fabrication of Alan Wake while trapped inside the Dark Place in an effort to finally escape his nightmare world.

5 Chrono Trigger ✨

Games that are centered around time travel tend to be somewhat confusing by their very nature, as they are also often narrated out of sequღence and force the player to piece the eve🐻nts together in the correct order.

Between all the time jumping nonsense of both the major and minor characters, as well as the many different endings that players can obtain in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Chrono Trigger, this title is one of the more convoluted and confusing sci-fi games out there. Before the rise of the internet, finding every possible ending ꦰwould have been quite the task for any budding gamer and would have been made even more difficult due to the length of the game, as it's quite a long RPG experience.

4 🐓 No Maꦛn's Sky

a living ship in no man's sky

Players who were burned by the original release of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:No Man's Sky may find it hard to believe that the g🎀ame actually has a cohesive storyline for players to follow now that adds some much-needed context to the title. While the story is fairly simple on paper, discovering and completing it for the first time fleshes out the world and the c🐻haracters.

In the original release, reaching the center 🧸of the galaxy will simply transport the player to a new one, but with the new story content, it is revealed that the entire game is a simulation created by the entity named Atlas and that reaching the center and resetting the simulation is the only way for them to survive. Not having this context doesn't take away from the overall gameplay experience, but it does add to the lore of the game and allows players to make sense of an otherwise confusing gameplay loop.

3 Horizon Ze෴ro Dawn 🦄

Aloy about to shoot an arrow

One of the biggest questions that players had when 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Horizon Zero Dawn was first rele🎃ased was 🙈how the world came to look the way it did, with highly advanced robot dinosaurs alongside primitive, tribal human cultures.

It's not until the very end of the game that players learn the true nature of Project Zero Dawn, the purpose of HADES, GAIA, and the other AI entities, and where Aloy fits into the story. The player will also finally learn why some of the machines are designed to look like dinosaurs, as GAIA states that they are sad they never got to see them for themselves during a conversation with Dr. Sobeck while teachinꦯg the AI empathy.

2 Nier: Automata ไ

nier automata

Like with its predecessors, Drakengard and Nier, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Nier: Automata has multiple endings that a💖dd some much-needed context to the w🉐orld and motivations of its characters.

However, also like its predecessors, many aspects of the story won't start to make sense until the player has 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:completed the game multiple times and played through the experiences of multiple characters, as several recurring characters have their own adventures away from 2B that you never get tಞo see the first time around.

1 ꦐ Death Stranding

Trailer Reveals in DS

Many of Hideo K꧟ojima's sci-fi creations are downright confusing at the best of times, though there are notable exceptions to this, like the Zone of the Enders series.

One game that remains confusing, even after finishing it, is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Death Stranding. Playing the role of a delivery boy trekking cargo across large expanses of land, the game drops several words and sci-fi jargon at the player at once, with the story and characters only really coming together at the conclusion of the ga🃏me. Even after finishing Death Stranding's story, however, t🎀he ending is likely to raise more questions than it answers and may take several more playthroughs before everything falls into place.
