9 Sonic Chaos ꦛ 𓆏

Sonic Chaos is a game you might have missed from Sonic's golden Sega Genesis years. And if you did, you should really consider picking this up. There's nothing here that you won't find in Sonic 1 or 2. The level design, mechanics, and story all hit basically the same beats. But it's that classic Sonic The Hedgehog formula that makes this so worth playing. This is the style of Sonic game that so many people miss among the sea of duds we've gotten from the franchise over the last decade or so. Even if there's nothing new here, there's just enough of that nostalgia magic to make this a worthwhile play.

8 ♑ Crystal Warriors 🌳

The Game Gear has a surprisingly varied number of great RPG titles utilizing the classic turned-based combat formula. Crystal Warriors isn't the best one, but it's definitely worth checking out. It's certainly the most standard of all the RPGs on this list. Medieval fantasy setting? Check. A story about magic rocks and an evil wizard? Check. The combat system is very tactical and seems to take a lot of inspiration from games like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Shining Force, which is great if that's a formula you can't get enough of. The Crystal Warriors sequel, Royal Stone, is considered by most to be a much better game on all fronts. But since the game is Japan-only, Crystal Warriors is the game that makes the list.

7 Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last 𒉰Bible ♏

If you're one of the many fans just getting into the SMT series through Persona 5 or Shin Megami Tensei IV, you're probably not even aware that there's a Megami Tensei game for the Game Gear. There's no shame in that, but it is a worthwhile playthrough if you're addicted to the formula.

Mechanically, Last Bible hits the notes you expect from an SMT game. You recruit demons (They're called "monsters" in this game, for some reason), fight alongside them, and combine them to make stronger allies. Interestingly, Last Bible has the more RPG standard medieval fantasy setting, which is rare for the SMT series.

6 Defenders Of Oas🅠is

Defenders Of Oasis is an RPG like you've never seen. With a Middle Eastern setting based on the classic Arabian Nights folk tale, this game has a look and feel that is all its own. A lot of similar beats to other fantasy RPGs are here, like dungeon exploring, turn-based combat, and random encounters. The game moves quickly, though, which prevents Defenders Of Oasis from falling into similar monotonous traps that other RPGs of the like do. It's definitely worth picking up if you're a fan of this type of RPG who's tired of the same medieval fantasy setting that most use as an easy backdrop.

5 Tails Adventure 🌱

A game like this makes you wonder why Sega hasn't put more effort into giving Tails more of his own games. Tails Adventure is a fantastic solo title for the furry side character. Rather than copying the signature speed of a Sonic game, Tails Adventure focuses much more on exploration, problem-solving, and paying attention to the details throughout each level. It provides a great contrast between this game and the Sonic games, really feeling like this game has a personality all its own. It's a shame we haven't gotten any follow-ups, since it would be interesting to see what else could be done with this concept in the Sonic universe.

4 X-Men

3 Ristar

If you appreciate the largely underrated Ristar for Sega Genesis, you'll equally appreciate its Game Gear counterpart. Since the titles are identical this game is often misidentified as a simple port of the Genesis game, but that's far from the truth. The Game Gear's Ristar shares similar gameplay and designs with the Genesis game, but the levels are entirely different. The primary similarity is that everything that works about the Genesis' Ristar works here. It's a side-scrolling platformer with unique yet smooth motion that's addicting to play around with once you've gotten the hang of it.

This is an underrated Shinobi game but not one that fans of the franchise should miss. The GG Shinobi contains all the difficulty, platforming, and sword-swinging action you expect from a Shinobi game. Plus this game has one of the best soundtracks of any game on the Game Gear. On top of that, there are also several different ninjas with various abilities and weapons you unlock and can switch between as you progress through the game. This is often accredited as one of the best (if not the best) games on Sega's most popular handheld, but on this list, it takes the number two spot beneath Sega's most classic franchise.

1 Sonic Triple Trouble 🦩 𝔍

There are a lot of Sonic games for the Game Gear. Sonic Triple Trouble is just the best of them.
