Back in May last year, Sega revealed that it was working on a "Super Game" that would take around five years to develop. Approximately ¥100.0 billion would also be invested into this project by Sega's parent company. If you were hoping that this was going to be some generational title that would define a genre, you're going to be disappointed. It turns out that this "Super Game" is actually just the project name for multiple games, some of which could feature NFTs.

This news comes courtesy of an internal interview between Sega Japan's recruitment website and executive VP Shuji Utsumi (thanks for the translation ).

&💟ldquo;Sega offers a wide range of game content, including hardware and arcade content, which is made possible by its diverse range of technologies," explained Utsumi. "We have defined ‘SuperGame’ as the development of AAA titles that cross over SEGA’s comprehensive range of technologies, and we will aim to achieve this in our five-year plan.”

He conti✤nued to explain that a number of titles will be developed under the SuperGame umbrella. While each will be uniqu🧜e on their own, they all will be "interactive titles that go beyond the traditional framework of games."

“For example, in the past, people who played games were called gamers, but now watching games has becomꦑe a culture in itself, and such people could no longer be called gamers. I think there is great potential in the relationship between people who play and watch games. We are thinking of creating new entertainment within these possibilities.”

There are four main criteria a SuperGame title needs to meet, according to him. It ꦅneeds to be on multiple platforms, with development in multiple languages, it must have a simultaneous worldwide release, and be considered of triple-A quality. According to Sega general manager Katsuya Hisai several projects are already underway, with around 50 people involved as of now.

And in the final bit of information we got about SuperGame, Sega producer Masayoshi Kikuchi explained,"Gaming has a history of expansion through the connection of various cultures and technologies. For example, social networking and game video viewing are recent examples. It is a natural extension for the future of gaming that it will expand to involve new areas such as cloud gaming and NFT. We are also deve🤪loping SuperGame from the perspective of how far different games can be connected to each other.”
