Sega's mystery project they teased last week turns out to be the spiritual successor to Theme Hospital.
For a whole generation of gamers, this is going to be huge news. If you first truly developed your passion for gaming in the mid-to-late 90s, you’ll fondly remember certain PC strategy titles. Bullfrog owned that genre, dropping truly creative, timeless gems like Dungeon Keeper. When it comes to that, though, there’s nothing more iconic than the voice overs from Theme Hospital’s receptionist (doctor required in inflator room!).
Well, guess what? The last time we heard from Theme Hospital wa𓆉s its Japanese PlayStation release in June 1998, but our two-decade wait 𝔉has now come to an end: A new installment has been confirmed.
If we’re going to be pernickety about it, we’re dealing with a spiritual successor here, rather than a straight-up sequel. Don’t let that put you off, though, because this is the real deal. In the same way that Bloodborne isn’t a Dark Souls game, but it still totally is really, the newly-announced Two Point Hospital is going to be everything fans have been cravi꧑ng for almost twenty years. How do we know? Because it’s being developed by mওembers of the original Bullfrog team, that’s how.

That’s right. Peter Molyneux’s dream team may have disbanded some time ago,🔯 but some of them have reformed under a new banner, T🎃wo Point Studios. In the eyes of many a nostalgic hospital sim fan, they couldn’t have picked a more hype project to tackle for their first game.
The co-founders of the new studio issued a press release yesterday, explaining a little of the thought behind, an𒁏d int﷽entions of, the project.
“Gary and I have been talking about this project for a number of years and are really excited to be announcing Two Point Studios’ first game,” said Mark Webley, co-founder of Two Point Studios.🍌 Gary Carr added: “The amazing team we have managed to bring together, and our partnership with Sega, has really allowed this first part of our vision to finally come to fruition.”
Both men have a lot of prior experience in the industry and the genre itself, having worked at Bullfrog and Lionhead Studios. While there, they were instrumental in the creation of other huge-hitters like Black and White and Fable.
It’s immediately clear that these are passionate developers, and that’s always a crucial thing in these matters. Two Point Hospital isn’t quite a reboot or a sequel, technically, but we’re talking about the legacy of a huge and much-beloved game here, and that’s not something to take lightly. Fortunately, it sound🍰s like these guys are treating the name with the respect it deserves.
As the game has only just been announced, details are thin on the ground as of right now. It’s headed for a release date of "later in 2018," and the crux of the project is tღo be as true as possible to the humor and quirky nature of the original.
At this early stage, all signs are looking good. The announcement trailer centers around an🐓 unfortunate patient afflicted with Light-Headedness. Which, of course, means that his head has turned into a giant lightbulb.
If all of this has got you excited for some more h🌳ospital management fun, your next destination should be. Signing up there will snag you an exclusive free item when the game launches on Steam, later this year.
