With the arrival of the PS5, the PS2 is now three generations old. Since that console launched in 2000, the system has aged more than two decades. There are still so many great games trapped on the PS2 that developers are slowly re-releasing through various means. That’s where this remaster of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne comes in. The original wℱas a 2💫003 release in Japan and had a 2004 date in the West.

Every game in the series at this point was supported by only a niche audience. Each new arrival of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a Persona game brings in new fans wising to look at past games in the overall series. Since Shin Megami Tensei V is seemingly way off, now is a good time to trꦐy this classic out. One might be wondering then how much effort did Atlus put into this remaster? What, in other words, has changed?

6 ꧒ Remas🍨tered Visuals

As one would hope with a game sporting the term HD in the tit🐓le, this remaster does feature improved graphics. It looks great smoothed over. Not everything received this treatment though. There are CG cutscenes in the game that remain untouched. In fact, they🥀 are cropped in a 4:3 ratio which is really jarring to see it happen every time.

The cutscenes were always supposed to look better than the natural game. That was what made them so special to watch. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy VII was legendary for this reason and perhaps even served as an incentive for people to buy a PS1, as they hoped that thཧose CG cutscenes in the ads reflected the game's aesthetic. Now the opposite is true for remasters like this.

5 ♈ Added Voices 𒁃

Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne - Hikawa in chair

By 2004, voice acting in RPGs, or games in general 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:on the PS2, was pretty standaᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚrd. One of the biggest breakthroughs was💎 Final Fantasy X in 2001. However, that was not the case when Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne first launched.

Now this wrong has finally been righted, and both of the remaster's Japanese and English voice casts are great. There is one minor issueꦅ to this, tho🧸ugh. There is no way to have dialogue autoplay itself so that someone can simply watch through a scene. That said, this is only a minor gripe.

4 🍎 A Revised Sꦺcript

Not only did this remaster add in voices for two languages, but it also retranslated things. Even in 2004, games were being censored when they came over from Japan. It’🤪s a practice that still happens today but is more uncommon at least.

On that same note, the process of translati🌳on was still not perfect, resulting in some whacky text cases. Thanks to technological advances,ꦗ the translation process is smoother now more than ever, so the revised script is appreciated.

3 ꦅ Merciful Difficulty

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Compared to Persona, the main branch of this series has always been challenging. That’s not to say Persona games are a cakewalk because they too can be brutal♒. The point is the original release of Nocturne was merciless, making an already niche game harder to recommend to people due to the steep grind.

Players can now download free DLC adding an easy mode that eliminates most of the campaign's challenge. In fact, it is almost too easy, allowing yཧou to breeze through the game as if you are on god mode. Still, it’s nice to have an out for those excruciating boss fights. Just don’t forget to download it.

2 𝕴 Suspend Saves

The Suspend menu from Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster

Like most console RPGs of the time, the only way to save in the original game was through dedicated s🎃ave points. These were called Terminals which also was the way players could fast travel. In this remaster, Atlus added a Suspend function.

If used, a temporary save will be created and players will then be booted back to the title screen. Upon loading it back up again, the save file will delete itself. It’s not as good as adding in a menu function to save anywhere. Many modern games have this 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:feature, including Pokemon; come to think of it, that franchise always 𒅌had this feature. Atlus might fix this in a patch but Suspending 🍨is at least better than nothing.

1 Choose Between Dante Or Raidou 🍷

Dante confronting the party from Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster

Following the release history of this game can get complicated. The original game had no crossover character to recruit in 2003. Then, in 2004, a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:new PS2 version was released called Maniax which added Dante from Devil May Cry. That was the veಌrsion the West got. Then in 2008 Atlus released the Maniax Chronicle e𝔉dition, in Japan only, which featured Raidou Kuzunoha from Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon instead of Dante.

In this remaster, Raidou is the standard character since that will be new for the Western audience. However, if someone wants Dante🎃 instead, there is DLC called Maniax in homage to the original Japanﷺese title that replaces Raidou. Both characters are good but there is that certain flair only Dante can give off. It was a cool crossover back then and remains one of the more legendary ones almost two decades later.
