Shiny Pokemon are some of the most coveted partners you can get in the Pokemon series. Having something so rare is a huge mark of pride and passion for trainers, and having somethi☂ng with more unusual colors can make for a much more glamorous and personalized 🥃team.

Not all shinies are equally valuable, though, as many have ended up with bizarrely similar colors to their original form. Without the sparkle e♊ffect when they emerge from their Poke Balls, many shiny Pokemon aren’t recognizably unique, and 11 of them are especially disappointing.

Updated March 27th, 2022: With the launches of Legends: Arceus and BDSP, we've spent hundreds more hours in the Pokemon universe. Does that mean this is a great time to update our list? Yes, yes it does.

11 Blissey

Many competitive players will be plenty familiar with Chansey thanks to its remarkable defenses with the Eviolite item, and its shiny form is extremely noticeable. Rather than its usual soft pink, shiny📖 Chansey gets a much more amusing green coloring, making it resemble a rotten egg rather than 𒁏an adorable caretaker.

Once it evolves into Blissey, this entertaining color is swapped to a slightly brighter shade of its normal𝔍 white and pink. With how unique and entertaining Chansey looks in its shiཧny form, it’s a shame that Blissey is such a step down in terms of looks too.

10 Gengar

Shiny Gengars have always been an oddity in the Pokemon series. Its Mega Evolution and Giganﷺtamax Form are both incredibly unique, turning into a bright white and🍎 resembling a cartoonish ghost rather than its typical spooky self.

Outside of these alternate🐻 forms, the original shiny Gengar is just a more pale shade of purple with just as pale red eyes. You’re sure to notice its rarity when it changes into its many alternate versions, but on its own, shiny Gengars are alarmingly plain.

9 Togekiss

Togekiss and Togetic both are subtle as shinies, but they aren’t as bland or unexciting as the other members of this list. Its skin color is just an incredibly minor hint of red added, the red and bl💃ue decorative markings are swapped in color, making for a color shift that’s at least more interesting than most.

Togepi is much more noticeable as a shiny, though, with a bright pink body inside its c🔯olor-swapped egg. The fact that its shiny for🐎m evolves to resemble its egg more than the creature inside, though, is undoubtedly odd for this evolution line.

8 Sawk

Version exclusives can often be great as shinies. Some will often gain a color that lets them either be additionally unique, but many like Zangoose and Seviper swap palettes slightly to resemble the version of the game they’re unavailable in, making them much more iconic and remin🔴iscent of their home region.

Sawk and Throh from Pokemon Black & White lack both of these traits, but Sawk is especially unexciting as its strong blue shifts 💝to an unexciting purple while its karate uniform remains the same. Throh at least receives a more vibrant orange hue, but both of these Pokemon need a new෴ outfit for their shiny forms to stand out.

7 Duraludon

Dragon-types in Pokemon have🙈 had a lot of exciting and bizarre color shifts, such as the deep green Dragonite and the glamorously purple Kingdra. Duraludon is one of the newest members of this club in Pokemon Sword & Shield, so seeing this living skyscraper with a spectacular rare color would have been lovely for col🦄lectors.

Unfortunately, a shiny Duraluꦡdon is fairly close to its original model, with a slightly bluer palette that makes it just a small bit darker. In poorly lit environments, it’s easy to confuse it for a regular one, making for one of the worst new shi♒ny forms in the game.

6 Elekid

Elekid didn't make its grand eighth-generation return until Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but much like Blissey a🍒nd Gengar, it’s incredibly easy to mistake a shi🐲ny one with its original form. Rather than becoming paler, though, Elekid has a slightly more vibrant body, making it just look more like what you’d expect a non-shiny electric Pokemon to look like.

Its later forms, Electabuzz and Electivire, are far less bland. Their bodies become a darker red that makes them reminiscent of their Fire-type counterparts in the Magmar family, leaving Elekids much more f💯orgettable before evolving.

5 Garchomp

Garchomp is one of the classic disappointing shinies, having many vibrant colors in its original form while its shin🍰y alternative is just slightly paler. While its look is far from bland or colorful in eiജther form, it’s a step down for such an intimidating and competitive fighter.

What makes Garchomp especially disappointing, though, is that its shiny form can be received as a gift in Pokemon Black 2 after beating Benga. Players in Pokemon White 2 get a shiny Dratini instead, whose evolutions are far more colorful and exciting than Garchomp&🌜rsquo;s. Shiny Garchomp is boring on its own but comes across even worse thanks to this comparison.

4 Glaceon

The Eeveelutions are some of the most exciting shini🧸es to find, and finding a Shiny Eevee means a trainer has tons of possibilities for a unique teammate. The neon grꦗeen Espeon and Jolteon might not be the prettiest, but they’re undoubtedly distinct and easy to identify as rare.

Glaceon, the Ice-type evolution from Pok𓄧emon Diamond & Pearl and their recent remakes, is no♒t one of these exciting possibilities, as it’s simply a brighter blue that looks completely identical in its preferred snowy weather. With so many vibrant alternatives, a shiny Glaceon is an unfortunate waste of potential.

3 Leafeon

Glaceon is far from the only disappointing Eeveelution, as a shiny Leafeon is just as bland as its Sinnoh sibling. That said, its color change is an inverse of Glaceon's, growing very slightly sharper in colors even though its palette remains painfully consistent.

Thankfully, Leafeon thrives in sunlight thanks to its abilities🔯 Leaf Guard and Chlorophyll, meaning with the brighter lighting it can be easier to tell it apart from a non-shiny Leafeon in battle. That said, there are still many better options for your shiny Eevee than to turn it into a Grass-type.

2 Castform

On the surface, Castform isn’t that unusual of a s🍸hiny. It loses its white palette for a purple body and yellow mask, making it significantly more unique. However, its weather transformations have historically lacked any difference as a shiny, remaining completely⭕ identical to the normal forms.

However, players have recently discovered in Pokemon Home that Castform's transformations are set to improve, having shiny forms in its Pokedex that haven’t appeared in prior games. Until they can be seen in action, though, its unchanged weather forms make it one of the most worthless shinies in the Pokemon series.
