Update: A press release from🌊 Slo🦂clap has revealed that Sifu will also be launching on PC via the Epic Games Store when it releases.

During today's "State of Play" stream, a martial arts brawler titled Sifu was announced as coming to the PS4 and PS5 sometime this year. Developed , the studio behind MMO-lite action title Absolver, it looks very stylish and almost like a Ya✤kuza game. There's a very clear inspiration from Hong Kong cinema, something that I'm in ♛love in.

The trailer doesn't explicitly state what Sifu is about, but it seems to follow the story of a man that is out for revenge. It's probably not goin♔g to break the mold of Kung Fu plotlines, but there's no need to change what works. As long as the title incorporates the excellent mo-capped fighting moves from Absolver, it could be a real hit.

The trailer ends with a vague 2021, which could mean that the game won't be hittinꦗg until the end of the year. That's perfectly fine, especially with how crazy the world has become since the COVID-19 pandemic started. If Sloclap 🍌needs extra time to polish Sifu, I'm willing to wait.

It will be interesting to see if Sony decides to put this on PlayStatio🍰n Plus at launch. Slocl𓆏ap's Absolver struggled a bit at launch but received an influx of players when it was offered on Plus a year after release. Sifu doesn't look to have any multiplayer elements, so it likely won't need to rely on being a freebie to get word of mouth around. It also looks badass as hell, with that main fight scene being reminiscent of the hallway brawl in Oldboy.
