If you believe the Metacritic user scores, Skull & Bones is a truly horrendous experience. At the time of writing, there are 295 user ratings averaging a score of 2.9 out of 10, with 214 of those ratings being negative and 27 being mixed. The majority of reviews say the game is a slog, with no endgame, a complete lack of story, uninspiring and samey 𒀰gameplay, and plenty of grinding. The few positive reviews refute this, saying that the game is fun, it’s great for casual players, and the graphics are good.
If you want my opinion, I don’t like it – big surprise. The graphics aren’t particularly impressive on my PS5, and moving my character around on land feels unwieldy. The core gameplay loop is incredibly boring, and there&rs🍌quo;s little to no story development to flesh out the game’s world or your character’s role in it. , even with major NPCs and brief attempts at worthwhile representation of the region it depicts. Sea travel is not fun. Naval combat is fine. I wouldn’t have tried it if not for the free trial that Ubisoft is handing out. Try it if you want, but I won’t be going back to it.
The ratings, though, will have you believe the game is an unmitigated disaster. Because I work at TheGamer, and because I think 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:our review scale is pretty fair, a 3/10 to me is a game that is either very broken but still fun at times, or wor🎶king fine but with no redeeming qualities. That’s what the user reviews say. Critic reviews, on the other hand, seem to be much more positive, with an average score of 64 across 12 reviews. (Three of those are reviews in progress and don’t have scores yet.) That said, there haven’t been that many reviews at the time of writing and the metacritic average will change over time, but I suspect it’ll settle somewhere in between those two scores at a 5/10 – boring and unoriginal, but otherwise fine.
I mention the critic reviews to make it clear that there are many perspectives on Skull & Bones, and not every critic dislikes it as much as I do. Destructoid and Game Informer, while still working on their final reviews, both say that the game does have enjoyment to offer if you go into it without preconceived notions. Users, however, are surprisingly united in their distaste, and I understand why. Negative user reviews are one of the few ways that players voice their displeasure, and Skull & Bones is particularly vulnerable to getting deluged with bad reviews since it’s had a lot of bad publicity, including Ubisoft’s CEO calling it a “quadruple-A game” to justify its high price despite its lack of a campaign. Not to mention the years of delays, constant changes in direction, and the fact it is emerging in a climate where games of this ilk are alr☂eady being left behind. In many ways, it was doomed to fail.
Does that mean the user ratings are correct and the game is a complete disaster? No. There’s long been contention between gamers and critics about the disparity between critic scores and user scores, and Skull & Bones will only add to that if the gap widens. In this case, I’m not inclined to say you should listen to the critics instead of other players, specifically because there haven’t been many reviews published yet. I do think the backlash against this game has been surprisingly vitriolic despite the lack o🌊f the usual factors which invite review bombing (wokeness, if you will). It’s not a disaster, and you might enjoy it if you like mindless games, especially since there’s a free trial. Just play the game and decide if you like it or not. It could be worse.
