The final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct ended with a whimper and not a bang, as a paltry three new characters were announced for the roster. The Grinch Leak turned out to be false, which has left many fans starting despondently at their screens as the Piranha Plant from Super Mario Bros. earned a spot over Banjo-Kazooie and Geno.
It's hard to complain about a game that comes seventy-four figꦐhters in its roster for free, considering the kind of shenanigans that Capcom has been pulling over the past few years, but it's ౠalso hard not to feel deflated with the last three characters that they announced.

All hope is not lost, however, as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be receiving at least five DLC characters in the ♑future.
Masahiro Sakurai confirmed during the final Direct that at least five DLC characters (and their stages) will be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate over the course of 2019.
These five characters will cost $5.9💫9 each, but you can buy a Fighters Pass for $24.99 that will give you access to all five of the characters as they are released.
Those who purchase the Fighters Pass will receive a Mii Fighter costume of Rex from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - a character that many had pegged to appear in the game, but it seems that itไ won't be happening anyꦰtime soon.
The Piranha Plant from Super Mario Bros. wi🐼ll be becoming a paid character at some point, as Sakurai confirmed that it will only be free for a limited amount of time, where it will likely cost the same as the other individual fighters.
The success of the DLC characters from the previous Super Smash Bros. game meant that more paid characters would almost certainly be coming to Ultimate.
This leaves us with the question of who will be coming to the game? Masahiro Sakurai confirmed with the Rex announcement that all of the characters had been set before the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, so new ꧙characters are now available to appear in the game.
A few strong candidates for newcomers and Echo Fighters have been disproven in the Direct, with Shadow the Hedgehog and Isaac from Golden Sun confirmed for being Assist Trophies, so we 🐓can at least 💎rule them out.
Those of you who were disappointed by the lack of Banjo-Kazooie, Geno, or an Undertale representative shouldn't ♊give up hope yet, as there are ღstill at least five characters to go.
