The Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl Gold has been a long time coming for western fans. This Level-5 media blitz was first announced in 2015 with a dubbed trailer. The trailer was of the anime, but was also meant to demonstrate the aspect of this broadening out to games as well. The game eventually released on 3DS in 2017 in Japan and soon after a mobile version was aℱlso produced.
This version then is an enhanced remake of the original 3DS version. It is an action RPG reminiscent in gameplay, tone, and style to another 3DS Level-5 title, Fantasy Life. For those curious, the anime is actually on Crꦚunchyroll with the dubbed version up to the first 27 of 50 episodes. It actually closely follows the game, or vice versa. However, in the game Chup, the blonde blue jacketed kid on the box, and his friends are background characters to the player created avatar who is the real star. With that said, here are some more things to be aware of before buying the game along with some helpful tips on how to get started.
10 Level Based, Not An Open-World
Even though this game is similar to Fantasy Life in some aspects, it differs on many. For example, i♑nstead of being able to explore a vast-open world, the game is instead broken up into small zones for bite-sized, quick missions that should only take five to ten minutes.
This depends on if the mission involves friends, or the bigger randomized dungeons. There is a lot of variety to✤ the zones, but they can’t be explored freely. For those hoping this wouldn’t be the case, sorry to be the br✃eaker of bad news.
9 How Multiplayer Works
Speaking of friends, yes, this does have multiplayer. It is the key re🍌ason to pick this up. It’s not not enjoyable alone, but the repetitiveness is definitely eased with the help of compatriots. Anyway up to four people can play online, or locally. There is a catch to the local part as it requires everyone to have their own Switch and copy of the game.🉐 That is to say there is no option for multiplayer on the same game, which is a shame for couch co-op fans.
8 Faux Gacha Game
Even though this game is full, $50 release, many aspects of it feel like a Gacha game. The game itself randomi🐻zed a lot of content. For example, doing a mission does not guarantee the best reward possible meaning players might have to retread the same quest a few times in order to get the goods. It takes awhile to actually level up as well and money is a scarce resource. Basically the game is a huge grind. Maybe even more so than the original Dragon Quest, whichꦫ is saying something.
7 Banes And Colors
There are two aspects of equipment one should be aware of before setting out on a mission. One, have a variety of colors equipped. If a blue monster is defeated by a blue weapon the rarity of the drop rate will increase. Weapons also have banes, which indicate what types of monsters they are strong against. It is a lot to take in mentality before a quest, but using the auto-equip function helps out most 🙈of the time.
6 Monster Tells And Abilities
It might be easier to hack and slash away at enemies, but don’t forget about abilities🐲 and cool downs.𓆏 On top of that monsters let out tell signs before they are about to use skills. Try to get good at reacting quickly when this happens using the dodge ability.
Another thing to be wary of of monsters is that defeating a set number of them, like twenty 🌊Foul Cats, will prompt an opportunity to catch it for the party. One can keep track of this in the encyclopedia section of the phone app.
5 Talk To Townsfolk Periodically
Besides story quests, after the first hour, or so, side quests will get unlocked as an option. NPCs will appear green on the map if they have a quest to give out. Be sure to explore the town periodically for new quests. A good rule of thumb is to do it at the beginning of every ch𓆉apter althougℱh they can drop in-between that timeframe too.
4 Fast-Forward Life
There is A LOT of story content and a good portion of it fe꧑els like filler. As about 90% of the game is not voiced, reading countless text entries can get annoying. Thankfully there is a fast-forward button. It is recommended to not pa🐼y the narrative any mind because most of it isn’t worth the headache.
3 Fortune Teller Dailies
Having trouble with the grind? Not feeling like playing it every day? Well, for those in it for the long haul there is a cheat. In chapter two players will meet the fortune teller. After a quest the ability to seek her aide will be unlocked. This means she can give players loot, randomly, once per day. Even if it is just for a minute, don’t forget💝 to log on daily.
2 Pix-e Profile
The fake phone of this world, the Pix-e Pod, has a lot more useful stuff in it than just the m🅺onster guide. For example, there are several characteristics that can be leveled up from the Pix-e Profile menu including Beaut🐈y, Fortitude, Intelligence, Ingenuity, Sensitivity, Charm, and Luck.
Leveling up these stats will give the players ♒bonuses like increasing strength, or the drop rate of items. The game doesn’t do a great job of ex🦂plaining this.
1 Don’t Sweat Death
Death is never a fun aspect of games. When it comes to roguelikes this can be espe♈cially true. However, penalties are very lenient in this game. If a quest is failed due to death, or abandonment, all experience and loot gathered up to that point will carry over. This is all to say don’t sweat the small stuff. Defeat happens, but it isn’t the end of the world.
