In North America, 1991 would be the first year of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Super Nintendo’s life. It released on August 23, 1991. For Japan though, this would be its second year as it launched on November 21, 1990 as the Super Famicom.⭕

This means that the library, thanks to both regions, was actually getting pretty well stocked in 1991. So, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:SNES’ launch year, let’s go through some of the biggest games that launched acr♒oss North America and Japan in 1991. It’s never too late to go back and play something retro if it still🔯 holds up, and that may be the case for some of these obscurities.

10 Little Master

Little Master released for the SNES on April 19, 1991, in Japan. This is actually the 30th anniversary of the entire series, which encompasses several games among other projects. It didn’t really escape the 90s 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:and/or Japan but a few of these have received English translations from fans. For those that like tactical RPGs, this original SNES game, in 𒅌particular, should not be missed.

9 SimCity

SimCity released for the SNES on Aprilꦛ 26, 1991, in Japan and a few months later in August for North America. While it was not as robust as the PC version, this game was a competent port.

It also had some slick bon🌊uses too, like Bowser rampaging through the city. For console fans wanting to get into simulations, there was nothing better than this.

8 Final Fantasy IV

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy IV released for the SNES on July 19, 1991, in Japan and a few months later in November f🐬or North America as Final Fantasy II. It confused Western fans for a while until it returned to its prop༺er name via the PS1 port. Regardless, this is the game that changed this series from a simple RPG to a robust game with an in-depth story filled with memorable characters.

7 Super Mario World

Super Mario World released for the SNES in 1990 in Japan and in August 1991 in North America. This has to be one of the best, if not the best, launch games ever. One could not own a SNES without this game. It was quintessential and still holds up incredibly well thirty years later. It might even be 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the best Mario game ever made.

6 Pilotwings

Pilotwings released for the SNES in 1990 in Japan and on A🐼ugust 13, 1991, in North America. This was more like a tech demo than a game. It showed🅷 off what the SNES was capable of in terms of 3D depth in 2D. Was it fun back then? Sure, but it’s not that great to go back to now — just like how Star Fox isn’t as wow-inducing.

5 F-Zero

F-Zero released for the SNES in 1990 in Japan and on August 23, 1991, in North America. Every system needs a racing game at launch and Nintendo had its own in🐟ternal creation that went on to create many more sequels. The series has been forgotten as of lateﷺ, but now is as good a time as any to come back to this for its 30th anniversary in the West. Now is the time to release that long-rumored Star Fox crossover game on Switch.

4 Super Ghouls ’N Ghosts

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts released for the SNES on October 4, 1991, in Japan and a month later in November for North America. This is a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:series from Capcom that has its fans, but it also has many enemies. That is to say if one owned this or its first game on the NES, this could p𒊎roduce trauma. The challenge was more difficult than anything Dark Souls has ever thrown out, which is certainly a legacy. That said, it is at least a little more balanced than ꦓthe first game.

3 Super Castlevania IV

Super Castlevania IV released 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:for the SNES on October 31, 1991, in Japan and a couple of months later in December for North America. This was essentially 🍎the third attempt at remaking the original Castlevania. This started out in arcades, then went to NES in a reimagined form, and then again here for SNES. While this may sound weird in the span of about five years, these were allꦉ good games with each being better than the last.

2 ActRaiser

ActRaiser released for the SNES in 1990 in Japan and in November 1991 in North America. This was ꦅan interesting idea for an RPG at😼 the time from Enix.

Players are basically a god trying to build and protec💖t a civilization through part of the game while the other part is 2D action platformer much like the aforementioned Castlevania. This series only ever got two games despite its small, but dedicated fanbase.

1 SD Gundam Gaiden: Knight Gundam Monogatari

SD Gundam Gaiden: Knight Gundam Monogatari released 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:for the SNES on December 21, 1991, in Japan. This game does have an English fan patch as recent as 2020 so fans can rejoice to finally be able to play this Gundam RPG for its 30th. It is basically Dragon Quest but with Gundams. It doesn’t do anything new for this genre, but it is an interesting twist for this anim༒e franchise to say the least.
