The bickering and predictions during the build to a Nintendo Direct will never go away, despite how unpredictable the presentations always are. This week's might have been the wildest Direct to date, which is saying something considering tౠwo of its bigger announcements were leaked ahead of time. An announcement that absolutely no one saw coming an𒐪d the world was left to digest as Miyamoto walked away from the Direct like Iron Man in that meme with the explosion in the background. In fact, the only person in the world not shocked by the reveal, other than Pratt himself, would have been Twitter user StheGeneral.

No offense to StheGeneral, but you've probably never heard of them. That's because their claim to fame has only just blossomed after more than a year of unintentional waiting. On May 21, 2020, so well over a year ago, StheGeneral casually predicted that Pratt would be cast as Mario for the movie, which looked like it might not even happen at the time.

“I'm calling it now, the Mario Bros movie will NOT have Charles Martinet play Mario for no reason and cast someone like Chris Pratt,” StheGeneral tweeted, probably not thinking about it again until the cast reveal during last night's Direct. How right they were. Miyamoto did add that iconic Mario voice actor Martinet will be a part of the movie, but it hasn't been confirmed how exactly he will be involved. Judging by the video Pratt has released since the news broke, Martinet will be on hand whenever Mario needs to say “it's a-me” or “mamma mia”.
