When the final DLC for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sonic Frontiers, the Final Horizon campaign, launched, most fans assumed they knew what to expect. A return of the ability to play as Tails, Amy, and Knu𝕴ckles; a tweaked final world and last boss; and a revision to the third act of a story most agreed was fairly anticlimactic. And in fairness, it does deliver these things.

Sonic Frontiers' islands are full of places t𓄧o explore and friends to save.

What they probably weren't expecting, however, was absolute white-knuckle difficulty. No joke: this DLC is the hardest (official) content the Sonic series has ever seen. Whether it's the devious, one-strike-and-you're-out tower climbs, or the damage-sponge bosses, you'll need to bring your A-game to emerge victorious. Here are all five of the story's main trials, ranked from... well, not-so-hardest to hardest.

5 The Crane's Trial

In a DLC littered with shamelessly sadistic challenges, the Crane's Trial stands out for being only somewhat tolerable. Unlike most of the others, which take great glee in chucking you among swarms of killing machines, this one features only a single target for you to whale on. Granted, that target is a gigantic, level-99 Elite Ninja, and all your stats are reset to level one, but it's the small mercies.

He's not to be taken lightly. Despite being on his lonesome, he's rocking a health bar several chili-dogs long, and won't hesitate to knock you on your spiny behind if you mistime a Parry. Fortunately, since there are no interruptions from other foes, you can feel free to hammer the stomp or cyclone moves, as you would against bosses in the main campaign. With a bit of luck, and some gratuitous stunlocking, he'll go down easy enough.

4 The Tiger's Trial

The Tiger's Trial is all about rhythm. It pits you against a host of supersonic Guardians who waste no time encircling you in an energy ring. From there, it's down to you to react with split-second timing as each enemy detaches from the ring and makes a lunge for you. If you Parry in time, they'll be downed and you'll get a brief window to sock it to 'em. If you don't? Well, who's up for hedgehog sushi?

Fishing in Sonic Frontiers can help in many ways, and with enough tokꦏens, you can skip whole levels!

And that's about it — there's not much else to this trial. The main challenge comes from the drastically-reduced frame period where Parry is effective in The Final Horizon. Other than that, this is an enemy type you'll have fought countless times in the base game; so as long as your muscle memory holds, you won't have too gruelling a fight. Consider it practice for the true suffering that awaits just a bit further down the line.

3 The Dragon's Trial

Sonic takes on the Dragon Trial in Sonic Frontiers

Being that it's the first tower trial you encounter, you might reasonably expect that The Dragon Trial would go easy on you, and would be the simplest of the lot. You know, to gently immerse you in the higher expectation of challenge? Well, to that, Sega say "ha!" The Dragon's Trial sees you accosted by a veritable school of Ninjas, all level 99, while your stats are rocketed all the w🐽ay back to squꦓare one. Joy.

The principal issue you'll face here is the liberal dispensation of thorn barriers. It seems every other second, one of the enemies puts down one of these impenetrable blockades, which damage you if you so much as brush a quill against them. This, of course, knocks you down and wastes precious time; time which, we might add, is scant in all of these trials.

Exacerbating the frustration is the Ninjas' particular penchant for putting up a shell around themselves, which requires Cyloop-ing off. Good luck with that precise maneuver while the arena's littered with deadly spikes.

2 The Snake's Trial

Sonic takes on the Snake Trial in Sonic Frontiers

The Snake's Trial has already garnered an infamous reputation among Sonic fans, so unyielding is its difficulty. The task seems simple: a handful of Shell enemies to be downed. Shell Guardians, in the main campaign at least, are one of the lesser-threatening obstacles. They're largely content to stay in one spot, and wait for you to come to them, remove their armour, and finish them off. Kind of like hermit crabs, but markedly more robotic.

No, the real kicker here is the aforementioned time limit. Frankly? It's disgusting. You're given a grand total of 90 seconds to clear the room of Shells; and since they're one of the most time-consuming foes in Sonic Frontiers, you're in for a grind. Dr. Eggman wishes he could put up this much of a fight.

They hate that hedgehog.

Not helping matters is that the game straight-up lies to you when it lays down the rules. "Cyloop will be the only ability available," it cheerily informs you. Guess what? That's wrong; you can Parry too, and it's all but required to eke out a victory, bouncing the Shells' projectiles around with reckless abandon. When the only consistent way players can find to beat your trial is by cheesing it, Sega, you've perhaps gone a step too far. A balance patch looms.

1 The Master King's Trial

Sonic fighting Giganto in Frontiers.

Sweet, heavenly Chaos. Sega were out of its maniacal, dastardly minds on this one. Widely being hailed as the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dark Souls of the Sonic series, the final trial — aptly named The Master King's Trial, as you'll need to be one in order to have a prayer — takes no prisoners. What, you may ask, does it require of you? Oh, only to beat all th♋e main Super Sonic bosses in the game. In a row. Without healing. Under a time limit. And with the Parry window being reduced to a single frame. Buckle up!

It's tough to put into words just how intense this trial is. The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:absolutely banging songs that accompany the Super Sonic fights, usually a source of unbridled adrenaline, provide only minimal respite. First up is Giganto, who's basically a freebie. Just watch out for that screen-clearing swipe, since again you'll have but one frame to block it. Next up is Wyvern, who can make or break your run. Cruelly, Sega makes you go through his pre-boss running sections, which are littered with laserbeams just waiting to cut down your precious health even further.

How many rings you have left going into Knight will determine your fate. You're at the mercy of RNG, since you can only damage him when he throws his shield, and time will be tight, he'll quickly become your most loathed boss. Victory here feels like a total roll of the dice — but hey, manage it, and you'll get to experience a truly stellar finale! Provided your controller survived the ordeal, of course.
