Ever wondered why Shadow the Hedgehog never adopted 007's first-person gameplay style? Look no further than Sonic Generations, where Sonic has been retro-fitted with a nauseating first-person mod that allows players to experience the game from the Blue Blur's nauseating point of view.
The first-person mod comes courtesy of , a self-proclaimed programmer and reverse-engineer who mods Sonic games. Skyth released a clip on Twitter earlier this week of what it looks like run through Sky Sanctuary Zone through Sonic's eyes.
"I am absolutely NOT responsible for what happens to you, play at your own risk," said Skyth, who after the clip was viewed over 700,000 times. He probably should've thought of saying, "Watch at your own risk," when he wrote, "warning: this video is going to badly hurt your eyes."
Skyth was quick to note that the 2D sections of Sonic Generations are "hard to navigate, but I guess it's obvious why," alluding to the fact that the 2D levels do not allow Classic Sonic to deviate outside of the side-scroller line like his modern counterpart can when the camera is behind him, which might further exacerbate motion sickness. That being said, he advises prospective players to disable the Boost Particles code. "Enjoy the suffering," he added.
WhisperWolf tried playing Sonic Generations in first-person for both Classic and Modern Sonic, and she said that it was not fun. When a commenter asked why the first-person mod sucked, that it's "really cool if you go slow but as soon as you go fast, it's motion sickness hell and it's so difficult to control."
In 2013, Machinima of them experimenting with playing the original Sonic the Hedgehog in first-person. The stable camera and Sonic's slow movement in that video might be a lot easier on your stomach.
As a Sonic fan of nearly 18 years, there were times where I always wondered what would happen if Sonic carried me while running through the streets of Miami, New York City, or literally anywhere. My 10-year-old self would've probably hurled until she built a tolerance to his high-velocity speeds. Princess Elise is lucky to have had a strong stomach while Sonic carried her throughout Sonic '06.
