Recently, the official Sonic the Hedgehog account announced that Sonic Mania Plus, the physical edition of Sonic Mania, would be coming out on July 17. Alongside the official trailer, it was also said that players whom already bought the original game would be able to get the features of Plus via DLC. Now we have confirmation of the DLC price, and other tidbits from SEGA's owওn Aaron Webber. Webber took to Twitter to confirm the price and present two other things regarding the game.
Analyzing this tweet yields a few interesting conclusions. First, it looks like there won't be any new zones, aside from Angel Island. Angel Island Zone was first featured in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and made a few subsequent appearances in various games. It is the home of Knuckles. It remains to be seen if Mania's Angel Island will be two acts like the other zones in the game. Secondly, $4.99 is the price for those wanting to get the Plus DLC but already purchased the original game. Mania at retail is $19.99, so downloading Plus will make it an overall purchase of $24.98, maki🎃ng it about five dollars cheaper than the physical release. However, the physical edition does contain a striking holographic cover, and an artbook, so those wishing to get the physical edition should feel justified in spending the additional five dollars.
The third point in the tweet is interesting. According to Webber, it looks like if you already own Mania, and you decide to buy the physical release, your saved data should carry over. This is good news for those who spent a good amount of time acquiring the Chaos Emeralds in Mania and want to get the physical release. In addition to that tweet, Webber also posted a subsequent twe♔et in reply to a user asking about an update.
