Ugly Sonic making a cameo in the new Chip 'N Dale film came as a surprise to us all - even the head of Sonic Team. In a recent interview, Takashi Iizuka reveals that he had no idea Sonic's infamous original movie design was going to appear in Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers, and only found out about it at the same time as us.
Speaking with Game Informer, Iizuka confirms that he is now aware of the cameo, but only found out about it through news reports. He also suggests that Sonic Team didn't have to sign off on it, potentially meaning it came as a surprise to Sega as a whole.
"Did you have to sign off on that?", the interview asks, referring to the ugly Sonic cameo. Iizuka replies that he didn't. This is followed up with asking whether he was given a heads up about the inclusion - which he also wasn't. "I knew from the news...I was surprised", Iizuka replies.
In any case, Iizuka seems to find humour in the situation. Unsurprisingly, he wasn't a fan of the original movie design either, so it doesn't seem like his feelings are hurt.
With this in mind, it's not totally clear if Disney sought permission to include ugly Sonic in the movie, or whether that was even necessary at all. Speaking at the time of Chip 'N Dale's release, director Akiva Schaffer remai🃏ned tight-lipped about how he got Sonic in the꧙ film, but did have this to share about securing so many cameos in general.
"It was a process. Yꦬou don’t usually come out of a movie and want to thank the lawyers, but we genuinely owe the Disney lawyers for being team players. [They] super stayed optimistic about it, and really saw the value of the third-party stuff, and they had to really wꦇork hard."
In other Sonic news, Iizuka also confirmed in the interview that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:th🐟e Chao Garden is not returning i🧸n Frontiers. He did, however, share that it is the most popular request from fans, so hopefully it will be back in some form soon.
