In this guide, we’ll go over exactly what yo๊🍌u need to do to defeat Time Eater, and how you unlock the boss in the first place.

How To Unlock The Final Boss In Sonic Generations

A player in Sonic Generations making their way to the final boss. They're standing on a moving platform controlled by gears.

As you might expect, your first step is beating all of the nine main stages, as well as the three bosses that block your path: Death Egg Robot, Perfect Chaos, and Egg Dragoon.

Once you’ve defeated Egg Dragoon, you unlock the ൲final area on the right side of the map. This looks like a bunch of machine parts and cogs, w🔥hich are activated with the Chaos Emeralds you’ve unlocked along the way.

This means you need all seven of the Chaos Emeralds to access Time Eater. You unlock four of them throughout the main story, but the remaining three come through the rival battles with Metal Sonic, Shadow, and Silver. Nope, these weren’t optional after all.

Once you have all of the Chaos Emeralds, simply take them back to the final area. By jumping near🎃 the centre of each cog, each emerald will automatically be slotted in place.

How To Beat Time Eater

After a cutscene, we find out that - surprise, surprise - Time Eater is being controlled by Eggman. Or, well, Eggmans, since there are two of them. This means there are two of you in the final boss, as you control both modern and classic Sonic.

Fromꦍ here on out, your task is simpl💟e - get close enough to Time Eater so you can land an attack. You need to land four attacks to win.

Both Sonics will be in Super Sonic form. This means that you’ll continuously lose rings the longer the fight goes on. Make sꦰure to pick up as many as you can,🦂 because hitting zero will restart the entire fight.

This means that the boss is largely “boost to win”. Just keep holding down the boost, and you’ll get there eventually. Once you reach Time💃 Eater’s vulnerability point (which will be clearly highlighted) just boost in🎀to that too, and repeat that two more times.

After the third attack, you’ll be prompted to press both of the back triggers at the same time, so b🦂oth Sonics can combine their power. Do this, and the fight is over.

Switching Between 2D And 3D

The final boss in Sonic Generations. The player is controlling classic Sonic, which makes the stage 2D

Pressing a button (triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox) will lܫet you switch between playing as modern and classic Sonic. As you’d expect, switching to classic Sonic turns the level 2D.

Don’t fret about this too much, as Sonic’s friends will tell you when to switch between 2D and 3D. But in case you 📖didn’t hear 🦩them, you can just follow Time Eater. Just make sure it’s always directly in front of you, and if it isn’t, then you need to switch.

You cannot attack Time Eater as Clas🔥sic Sonic, only dodge attacks and keep up the pursuitꦗ. However, this is a good opportunity to stock up on rings.

Time Eater’s Attacks

Sonic’s pals will give you some warning before Time Eater attacks, and give you a rough idea of how to avoid being hit. Here’s everythinܫg that Time Eater will throw your way during the f🦩ight.

Attack

Description

Homing Shot

A series of homing missles, and Time Eater’s most common attack. To avoid these, just don’t stay in one place tooಌ long.

Warping Arm Attack

One of Time Eater’s arms is laun🃏ched through a portal. To avoid it, just boost out of the way as soon as you see it coming towards you.

Crush

When you’re close to attacking range, Time Eater will bring its arms up to try and crush you. ꦦEither slow down to get out of range, dodge out of the way, or keep going until yo𒅌u land the attack, since this will stun it temporarily.

Laser

A laser beam. Boost out of the way before it can target you. Switching between 3ꦿD and 2D can also help with this.

Slow Down Time

Not much of an attack, but incredibly annoying. Towards the e🌸nd of the fight, Time Eater wi💝ll start slowing down time. You just have to wait it out, and then you can start boosting again.
