Right at the start, you'll probably end up with a few MREs and soda pops from the luggage strewn across the crash site, but that will only last you a couple of days. Then you'll need to source your own food and water.
There are a variety of different methods to acquire food and water throughout the game, whether that's foraging, hunting, or growing your own food. More will likely be added as the game receives its first updates, too.

Guide To Water In Sons Of The Forest
Water is essential. Your character will become dehydrated if you don't drink, and you'll start taking ticking damage. Thankfully, it's extremely straightforward to get water - just go to any source of fresh water (stream, lake, or river), jump into the water and press "E" to take a big gulp of it.
Once you've found the 3D printer, you can also craft a Flask which you can take with you on the 🌌move to stay hydrated whi🗹le exploring the caves and underground bunkers.
You will also find🦹 soda pops in some luggage crates.
Guide To Food In Sons Of The Forest
There are loads of different food sources in the game, from hunting small ꧋animals to sending Kelvin out to get fish.
Early Game Food
Right at the start, you can collect the bits of loot around the crash site in the hopes you'll pick up some food sources, like MREs or candy bars.
After that, there are ꦍa few different ways to acquire 💯more food:
- Send Kelvin fishing - Probably one of the most reliable ways to get loads of food is to set up your base next to some fresh water (like a lake), and send Kelvin out fishing. He will fish and fish and fish forever, basically, until there is a mountain of fish to eat. To do this, just press "E" on Kelvin to access the notebook, then tell Kelvin to Get Fish and to Drop Here.
- Hunt small animals with the bow or spear - You can use the crafted bow or spear to hunt birds, squirrels, turtles, and deer. Make sure to cook these on the fire before eating.
- Forage for berries and other food sources - Blue berries are edible, but they will replenish very little of your health. Some mushrooms, like Oyster mushrooms, can also be eaten.
You could also build your base on💎 the coastline, as there is pretty much ꦆan unlimited supply of turtles.
Containers respawn their loot after a shဣort time, which means you can return to different PoIs to grab more resources - including food.
