Bungie has just announced it'll be purchased by Sony Interactive Entertainment for a reported price of $3.6 billion. The announcement was made today on with the dollar amount provided by . Bungie will go from an independent studio to an "independent subsidiary” of Sony Interactive Entertainment run by a board of directors consisting of Bungie’s current management team.

"In SIE, we have found a partner who unconditionally supports us in all we are and who wants to accelerate our vision to create generation-spanning entertainment, all while preserving the creative independence that💃 beats in Bungie’s heart,” wrote Bungie chairman🔴 and CEO Pete Parsons. "Today, Bungie begins our journey to become a global multimedia entertainment company."

Sony's acquisition seems to be more investment-focused than about acquiring exclusive game IPs. Parsons notes that Bungie will retain full control of Destiny and other games 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:currently 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:in development and that all those games will rem▨ain multi-༺platform.

In a set up for concerned Destiny players, Bungie states it remains committed to providing 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Destiny 2 on all current platforms, including Microsoft Xbox, Google Stadia, and PC. Cross-play is expected to arrive with the coming Witch Queen expansion. The deal will not change any of Destiny 2's announced events or expansions up to The Final Shape in 2024.

Despite the acquisition and Sony's history of making games exclusively for PlayStation, Bungie remains committed to making multiplatform titles published outside of Sony's console. "We will continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and we will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community.​"

The move comes soon after Microsoft announced its intent to purchase Call of Duty maker Activ😼ision Blizzard for $70 billion earlier this month. Ironically, Bungie was previously under the Microsoft umbrella during Halo’s development, and then under Activision when the studio was making Destiny. Now under Sony’s auspices, perhaps Bungie has finally found a partner it can stick wi🏅th.
