Sony is considering a purchase of Leyou Holdings, the company that owns Warframe and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gears Tactics.
Many consider Digital Extremes, the developer of the free-to-play MMO 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Warframe, as a Canadian company, but it's actually owned by a Hong Kong-based holding firm called Leyou. Digital Extremes was purchased by Leyou back in 2014, and has remained pretty hands-off when it comes to Warframe's development.
However, Leyou is looking to get out of the games business. For the past year, Leyou was in talks to sell to iDreamSky, a subsidiary of Tencent, but those talks fell through thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, Sony might be thinking about throwing in a bid for Leyou's properties, which include Warframe and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gears 5 developer, Splash Damage.
According to a report from , Sony is in talks with a financial adviser to put in an offering for Leyou Holdings. That offering is likely to be quite high--the nuওmber being bandied around with iDreamSky was over a billion 🐼dollars.
Sony has indicated that they're looking to shore up their gaming IPs heading into the next console war, and both Digital Extremes and Splash damage are certainly veteran development studios, although their games almost certainly wouldn't be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. Gears of War is still owned by Microsoft, and Warframe is already available on pretty much every major platform, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:including the Nintendo Switch.
However, that doesn’t mean that either studio couldn’t start working on entirely new games that are exclusive to the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:PlayStation 5. Digital Extremes has a long history of working with Epic in developi🐻ng their games, an🌱d Splash Damage has a history of collaboration as well.
This is hardly a done deal, but Sony expects its offer to be compelling due to recent ꧟political events in Hong Kong. Sony believes it can edge out rival Chinese bidders thanks to a more reliable source of financing. We don’t expect to hear more o♈n this offer until next week at the earliest.
