New consolꦏes have historically been met with giddy anticipation. While the PS5's reception has been no different for some, a significant number of skeptics remain unconvinced that a new PlayStation console will be capable of changing the gaming landscape to the same degree as its predecessors.

This is in part due to the impossibility of a significant jump in the quality of its graphics, as well as a rise in the democratization of games' availability. Many PS5 titles, save for some exclusives, will become available on the PCs gamers already own, nullifying the need in some cases to purcꦇhase a pricey new console. In an interview with the BBC, Sony Interactive Entertainment's CEO and President Jim Ryan and moreꦿ.

First, Ryan immediately addresses the thought that the PS5 may not bring with it change on par with previous generaꦚtions of consoles. He admits that the graphical capabilities of the PlayStation 5 aren't it's selling point, but argues that its 3D audio capabilities, DualShock 4 controller, and its solid state hard drive all collectively add up to a significant enough paradigm shift around which to build a new generation of PlayStation consoles.

These new technologies Ryan believes will "enhance the sensory experience" of next-gen games relative to what's possible now on PS4 and Xbox One. The Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart teaser shown during the PS5 reveal event showcases the solid state hard drive at work, allowing Ratchet to travel smoothly from planet to planet in real-time rather than requiring load zones. 🐼Presumably this and other flagship titles will make ample use of the technologies Ryan mentions t♕oo.

Ryan also makes a point to mention that it's not just AAA titles that are making innovative use of the console's next-gen cap🔴abilities but indie titles too, hence why the reveal event showcased a number of i꧑ndie games alongside marquee big budget releases.

The biggest question remaining about the PS5 is how much it will cost. His interview with the BBC includes no revelations about its price point, but Ryan does conclude the by acknowledging the company's thinking behind whatever its price may end up being. Value equations, Ryan states, are important to Sony, which means that price will ideally reflect the overall value o♕ffered by the console—most likely placing it in the realm of either kind of expensive or very expensive.
