Sony just held an event for PS5, revealing an impressive slate of games for its new console. Among the reveals is a new entry in the highly successful PS4 Spider-Verse. Titled it stars the younger Spider-Man as he finally dons his suit and takes on New York. The brief trailer told us little else, offering glimpses of Miles using his unique powers and a Holiday 2020 release window. It's great news, and a lot sooner than expected. Which begs the questio𓂃n: is this really🦂 a sequel?

Looking closer at the footage, there are some clues that Spider-Man: Miles Morales might be a spin-off or expansion to Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4. For one, the lack of "2" anywhere ✨in the title. Also, the little disclaimer at the bottom of the logo reads "Captured on PS5."

This is different from what usually shows up on game trailers, where it displays logos for all the consoles and PC platforms it will be available on. Granted, Spider-Man is a PlayStation exclusive. But still, it could've just given a PS5 l꧙ogo instead of saying "captured." This implies the content is releasing on b♊oth PS5 and PS4.

If Miles Morales is indeed also coming to PS4, it's a safe bet that it's using the same engine and assets as the previous game. That also explains why it's coming so soon. A full-fledged sequel would probably take a little more time, aiming for a 2021 release at best. When taking all of this into consideration, it seems very likely that Miles Morales will be a shorter spin-off, more like an expansion of the PS4 game than a true Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Not that there's anything wrong with this. Marvel's Spider-Man is a gorgeous, fantastically fun game as it is. More of the same with ♔Miles is enough to satisfy fans. And it's a smart business move on Sony's part as it gets something out in time for PS5's release.

It would be nice, however, to get more details soon. There's no point in hiding the true nature of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales other than to make iﷺt look like a must-have PS5 launch title. But many PS4 owners would love to play it, and might not have the funds to upgrade right away. So please throw us a web line here, Sony.
