Spider-Man: No Way Home's script confirms a popular theory that Tom Holland's Spider-Man suit was inspired by Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire.
Beyond the long-awaited appearance of other Spider-Men, one of the standout mome☂nts in No Way Home was its ending and how it brought Tom Holland's Peter Parker back to being his own independent superhero. No one knows his secret identity, he's studying for college, and has to pay his own rent. He also has his own homemade suit and has to sew and repair it himself.
This suit captured the attention of many Spider-Man fans, who noticed that the eyes, colouring, and Spider-Man emblem all seemed to be inspired by his meeting with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. , it's now been officially confirmed that Tom Holland's Peter Parker took inspiration from other Spider-Men.
The script, nicknamed Serenity Now, contains the film's epilogue and describes the final scene in more detail. It reads, " ANGLE ON a desk with a sewing machine. Scraps of red and blue fabric. Nearby rests the LEGO Emperor figurine and the coffee cup MJ gave Peter at the donut shop. He kept it. In BG, Spider-Man slides up the window and leaps outside... EXT. NEW YORK ROOFTOP - MOMENTS LATER (NIGHT) Spider-Man flips and rolls across a snowy roof in a BLUE AND RED SUIT (new for him, but reminiscent of suits he’s seen before)."
The line "new for him, but reminiscent of suits he's seen before" is a clear nod that confirms that Tom Holland's final Spider-Man suit is indeed inspired by his meeting with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. Marvel hasn't shown off the new homemade suit officially and the final scene in No Way Home goes by so quickly that it can be hard to see it, but now we know that it's got a much deeper legacy.
Interestingly, the script also gives Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man the nickname "Webb-Verse Spider-Man" and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man "Raimi-Verse Spider-Man". This seems to just be for scripting purposes, however, as Marvel previously named them "The Amazing Spider-🌳Man" and "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-M🅷an" respectively.
