Square Enix is building up the hype for the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VII Remake by showing off the new intro for the game.

The intro to Final Fantasy VII is one of the most iconic in video game history, blowing the minds of those who saw it back in '97. Gone were the sprites and fantasy villages from the Nintendo era, replaced by 3D models and a dystopian city worthy of the darkest science fiction movies. The original intro showed Aerith walking through the crowded streets of Midgar, before the camera pans out to show the city in all of its glory. We see the Midgar train coming t♔o a stop, as the members of AVALANCHE leap from their hiding positions, take out the guards, and start the mission to destroy the reactor.

The official Square Enix YouTube page has uploaded the new intro for Final Fantasy VII Remake. The intro starts in the wasteland outsid꧂e of Midgar, as it follows a bird flying through the city. We see the residents of Midgar during the day, as well as the poverty and pollution that plague the city.

Aerith's journey through the streets has been extended, including her being concerned about being followed an♏d being pushed to the ground by🐭 strangers. The moment where AVALANCHE battles Shinra is mostly the same and just looks cooler.

Final Fantasy VII had some of the most impressive cutscenes on the original PlayStation, to the point where the FMVs were used to promote the game. The cutscenes might look primitive now in terms of quality, but their direction and pacing are still top-notch. The expansion in the Final Fantasy VII Remake might not be to everyone's taste, but it shows a side of Midgar that the limited technology of the PlayStation couldn't portray back in '97. The people expecting a straight remake of the original game might be disappointed, but Square Enix is planning on expanding the concept of Final Fantasy VII and not just copying it with better graphics.

Final Fantasy VII Remake wꦉill be released for PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020.
