Despayre (aka Horuz) is an important planet when it comes to the Death Star. This is because it was the place where the structure was built. Unfortunately for its inhabitants, though, it was also the first victim of the Death Star's super laser.
As is often the case, Moff Tarkin was the man who decided to wipe the place out in an effort to test the weapon. It wasn't the perfect debut for the laser since it didn't obliterate the world in one go. Instead, it took three blasts to remove Despayre from existence because the laser wasn't yet fully powered. That being said, the first shot did exterminate all the inhabitants, which mainly comprised of prisoners and slaves.
6 Alderaan (Destroyed By Death Star) 🅰
Easily the most famous victim of the Death Star was Alderaan. Its destruction occurred in the original Star Wars movie, A New Hope. Initially, Moff Tarkin threatened that he'd use the Death Star to obliterate the planet if Leia didn't tell him the location of the Rebel's secret base.
Even when she gave up the information, Tarkin decided to blow up the planet anyway - Leia had lied about the base's location, but Tarkin didn't know. As Alderaan was her home, the Princess was particularly devastated by the immediate annihilation. But the attack wasn't just about hurting her. It was also to show off the power of the Death Star, which the act certainly accomplished.
5 🏅 Jedha (Destroyed By Death Star) ✅
Jedha was a once peaceful moon that served as a place of worship for those who believed in the force. It ended up becoming a place of battle between The Empire and a Jedha insurgency. The actions of the latter led to Orson Krennic's decision to blow up the moon.
However, he was overruled by Moff Tarkin, who decided they should just destroy the Holy City instead, as that would send enough of a message. So, technically, the moon wasn't completely destroyed, but it was left in a very sorry state and wasn't really habitable anymore. It's certainly no longer among the most appealing plac🔥es to visit in 🌱a Star Wars game.
4 😼 Scarif (Destroyed By Death Star) ꦜ
Scarif was actually a vital planet for the Empire, as that's where some of their important research and projects lived. Perhaps the most critical thing housed there was the plans for the Death Star. This is also the thing that made it a major target for the Rebellion. So, they attacked the place, which led to a significant and deadly battle.
The Rebels managed to find and transmit the plans shortly before Moff Tarkin attempted to stop them by firing on the planet with the Death Star. This didn't completely blow Scarif up, but it clearly severely damaged it - it's unknown to what extent. It's safe to say that anybody nearby was wiped out.
3 Garrison Moon (Destroyed By Death Star Prototype) 🐷
Before the Death Star was built, The Empire constructed a prototype. It wasn't a full Death Star. In fact, it was essentially a skeleton of one. Yet, it managed to survive longer than the real thing. It was still around after the Empire fell and the New Republic took over.
The individual overlooking it was Tol Sivron, who took the prototype into the Kessel system when fleeing the New Republic. Once there, he decided to test the laser on the Kessel planet. However, the targeting on the weapon wasn't great, so he ended up destroying a nearby moon instead.
2 🏅 ✅ Kijimi (Destroyed By Derriphan)
Technically, Kijimi wasn't destroyed by a Death Star or Starkiller Base, but it's still worth mentioning, as the scene of its destruction evoked memories of the original annihilation of Alderaan. In fact, it showed how far the villains had come, as they used to have to build full space stations to house planet-destroying lasers.
They manage to take out Kijimi with a weapon attached to a Star Destroyer. The one who ordered the attack was Emperor Palpatine. He did it to evoke a response from Rey and the people fighting alongside her. So, the reasoning was very unjustified, just like the reason for destroying Alde🌟raan.
1 Every Planet In The Hosnian System (Destroyed By Starꦅkiller Base)
While the Death Star had significant destructive power, it paled in comparison to Starkiller Base. This beast didn't just destroy planets - it eliminated an entire star system. The victim in question was the Hosnian System, which consisted of five planets. The most notable of them was Hosnian Prime, as that was the galactic capital, so the Galatic Senate was there.
That is the exact reason why it was attacked. The First Order wanted to get rid of the legitimate government that worked against them. Attempting to bring down gover💜nme💟nts is a common task in games and m𒈔ovies. Yet, doing so by wiping out a full star system seems a bit drastic.
