Like a plucky padawan, Respawn had something to prove in the beginning, and Stig Asmussen, who once worked on the God of War series for Santa Monica Studio, was leading a growing team. The core team had to persuade and convince Lucasfilm of their vision for the game, w🐟ith ev🐻en the rights for the use of lightsabers having to be fought over.

But the padawan proved its worth and Fallen Order turned out to be a blockbuster success and working with Lucasfilm is now a lot easier, the game director said. "I don't look at Lucasfilm as 'them'", he told Dexerto. "We're working on this together. We've been doing it for six or seven years now, it's been a long time. We're not just partners, we're part of the same team as far as I'm concerned".

According to those who were lucky enough to spend some hands-on time with Survivor, the sequel not only pushes the game's story forward but also advances the overall Star Wars story, which is indicative of the greater trust and partnership Lucasfilm and Respawn have established.

The story of Survivor takes place around five years on from Fallen Order, while a book 'Battle Scars' filled in some of the gaps in that intervening period, something that Asumssen revealed Lucasfilm pushed for. "As far as I know, that was something Lucasfilm presented to us while we were working on Survivor", he said.

The game director was also asked about a third and final act in the story of Cal Kestis. While demurring to answer too directly, Asmussen did hint that a third game could certainly be on the table, sayiꦆng that he thinks in trilogies, while Star Wars is known for such arcs. So there may well be a follow-up to Survivor.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launches on PC, Xbox Sไeries X/S, and PlayStation 5 on April 28.
