Buzz about Knights of the Old Republic making a return first started up when the Star Wars Visual Dictionary hinted at the existence of the Sith Lord, Revan, confirming that the character was canon and opening the door for Disney to explore the era of the Old Republic. Exploring the earlier days of the Jedi Sith feud makes sense at this point in time, as many fans have become exhausted with the modern era of Star Wars films, mostly thanks to the recent sequel trilogy that split the fanbase. People are ready for Disney to explore the more obscure stories within the universe, which is a big reason why The Mandalorian has been praised by a majority 𒅌of fans and critiꦐcs alike.

Not only that, but the Knights of the Old Republic era offers an endless amount of content for writers to work with. They can utilize the stories of both games as well as content from the expanded universe. Given that the era takes place before the rule of two, they also have free reign to introduce original characters on both the Jedi side as well as the Sith. Even though the games are excellent, the KotOR era remains largely꧒ untapped, and there's no telling where Disney might take things.

There's no word as to when a Knights of the Old Republic show or movie will be released, and both projects are likely to still be in the early stage of development. We're guessing that it will be at least two years before we see a release date. While you're waiting though, you can check out The Mandalorian on Disney+ now. On top of that, an Obi-Wan Kenobi series and a Rogue One prequel series are expected to launch in the next year or so, meaning that we'll have plenty of Star Wars content in the near future.
